Job Description:
We are seeking a high-performing SME Relationship Officer to manage and grow a portfolio of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) clients. This is a dual-focus role requiring a strategic "hunter" mindset: you will be responsible for Asset Finance (Loan Disbursements) to help businesses scale, while simultaneously driving Term Deposit Mobilization to strengthen the bank's liquidity. As the primary link between the institution and the entrepreneur, you will conduct credit appraisals, manage risk, and provide tailored financial advisory to ensure long-term portfolio health and profitability.
Requirements:
1. Strategic Loan Disbursement & Asset Finance
Deal Sourcing: Proactively identify and onboard SMEs in need of asset financing (machinery, vehicles, equipment) and working capital loans.
Credit Appraisal: Conduct thorough site visits and financial analyses to evaluate the creditworthiness of applicants, ensuring all disbursements meet the bank’s risk criteria.
Portfolio Quality: Manage the end-to-end loan lifecycle, ensuring timely repayments and maintaining a low Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio.
2. Term Deposit Mobilization
Liquidity Growth: Aggressively market and sell Term Deposit products to individual and corporate clients to meet monthly and quarterly deposit targets.
Liability Management: Develop strategies to attract low-cost deposits and long-term funds, enhancing the branch's deposit base.
Relationship Depth: Cross-sell investment products to existing loan customers to ensure a 360-degree banking relationship.
3. Relationship Management & SME Advisory
Customer Stewardship: Act as a dedicated advisor to SME clients, understanding their business cycles and offering timely financial interventions.
Market Intelligence: Stay updated on industry trends and competitor offerings within the SME space to suggest product improvements.
Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with the Credit and Risk departments to expedite loan approvals while maintaining documentation integrity.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Economics, or a related Business field.
Tenure: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in SME banking, microfinance, or asset financing.
Track Record: Proven ability to hit multi-million naira targets in both loan disbursements and deposit mobilization.
Core Competencies
Credit Analysis: Strong ability to interpret financial statements, cash flow patterns, and business plans.
Sales Prowess: Excellent negotiation and "closing" skills with a wide network of SME contacts.
Risk Sensitivity: A deep understanding of the Nigerian business environment and common default triggers.
Communication: Persuasive verbal and written communication skills for pitching to business owners.
