About Company:

PDO Inc. is the central hub that drives the expressions and operations of one of Africa’s most socially impactful and forward-thinking personal brands—Brand PDO. With active footprints in social development, entrepreneurship, climate advocacy, and media, we unify diverse, high-impact projects under a single powerful vision.

Job Description:

A major infrastructure development project is commencing within the Illela–Gidan Madi–Binji–Silame corridor of North-West Nigeria. We are seeking experienced Social Workers/CLOs to serve as the vital link between project consultants and host communities.

This is an "Immediate Resumption" role for field-hardened professionals who understand that large-scale engineering projects succeed or fail based on their social license to operate. You will be responsible for implementing structured social safeguards, managing grievances, and ensuring that project activities—from resettlement to construction—align with community welfare and cultural heritage.

Requirements:

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Social Safeguards

  • Community Diplomacy: Lead structured consultations with traditional leaders, youth groups, and vulnerable stakeholders to ensure project transparency and buy-in.

  • Resettlement & Livelihood Support: Monitor compensation and resettlement activities, ensuring that the livelihoods of project-affected persons (PAPs) are protected and documented.

  • Awareness Advocacy: Implement critical field campaigns covering Health & Safety, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Cultural Heritage, and Worker Conduct.

2. Grievance Redress & Conflict Mediation

  • Grievance Mechanism (GRM): Serve as the frontline officer for receiving, documenting, and tracking community complaints in strict accordance with project procedures.

  • Conflict Resolution: Act as a mediator to resolve disputes between contractors and host communities before they escalate into project delays.

  • Risk Reporting: Prepare structured daily and weekly field reports that flag potential social risks or community unrest to management.

3. Social Baseline & Field Research

  • Data Collection: Carry out socio-economic baseline studies and community research to inform project planning and impact assessments.

  • Site Monitoring: Travel regularly across rural and peri-urban communities within the project corridor to ensure ongoing compliance with social standards.

  • Accountability Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of all community interactions and signed agreements for audit purposes.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Community Development, Anthropology, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: 3–7 years of proven field experience, specifically on infrastructure or large-scale development projects.

  • Language: Hausa language proficiency is highly desirable for effective community integration.

  • Mobility: Must reside in or be able to relocate immediately to the Illela–Binji–Silame axis.

Core Competencies

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Comfort working in rural, traditional, and culturally sensitive environments.

  • Mediation Skills: Strong ability to resolve conflicts and manage high-pressure community negotiations.

  • Field Grit: Highly accountable, field-oriented, and ready for frequent travel across the project corridor.
