Job Description:
Canonical’s Talent Science team is on a mission to eliminate bias and drive high-performance hiring through objective, scientifically rigorous processes. As a Graduate Talent Scientist, you will not just "fill roles"—you will engineer the hiring ecosystem of a global technology leader.
By weaving behavioral science, psychometrics, and advanced data analytics into our selection models, you will ensure we select world-class talent regardless of geography or background. This is an entry-level role for an academically exceptional individual who is as comfortable discussing intrinsic motivation as they are writing SQL queries to analyze selection funnels.
Requirements:
1. Behavioral Science & Assessment Rigor
Evidence-Based Selection: Learn to implement and refine behavioral interview techniques and psychometric assessments to predict workplace performance.
Assessment Theory: Gain a deep appreciation for the advanced theory of psychometrics and the science of intrinsic motivation to identify "Canonical-fit" talent.
Bias Mitigation: Contribute to the design of hiring models that ensure objective decision-making across diverse global cultures.
2. Data Analytics & Technical Automation
Statistical Insights: Leverage SQL (and ideally Python) to dissect large datasets, identifying patterns in candidate flow and hiring outcomes to drive evidence-based decisions.
Process Engineering: Use technology platforms and automations to eliminate friction in the hiring funnel, ensuring our processes are as efficient as they are rigorous.
Advanced Analytics Projects: Contribute to high-impact projects that require advanced statistical analysis to solve complex talent acquisition problems.
3. Stakeholder Leadership & Project Management
Strategic Partnership: Build relationships with senior Hiring Leadership to ensure they remain on track with their global hiring targets.
Project Roadmapping: Utilize strong project management skills to plan, roadmap, and deliver talent objectives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
Communication Excellence: Present data-driven insights and solutions to stakeholders with clarity, professional polish, and executive presence.
Qualifications and Skills:
The "Exceptional Scientist" Profile
Academic Excellence: An undergraduate degree in Psychology or a people-based subject with a stellar academic track record from high school through university.
Technical IQ: Proven ability to analyze data using SQL. Experience with Python or advanced statistical modeling is highly advantageous.
Field Exposure: Prior exposure to talent selection through university coursework, a relevant internship, or a first professional role.
Global Mobility: Ability to travel internationally 2–4 times a year for company sprints and events (occasionally for up to two weeks).
Core Competencies
Analytical Mindset: A high level of curiosity to integrate data and draw actionable insights.
Tech Passion: Evidence of a genuine interest in the technology space and the platforms that power it.
Self-Motivation: The drive to operate effectively in a remote-based environment across the EMEA region.
