Job Description:
The Department of Mass Communication at Prime University is seeking a technically adept and disciplined Studio Technologist to anchor our broadcast facilities. In the evolving landscape of digital media, the studio is the heart of student development. Your mission is to oversee the technical management, operation, and maintenance of our radio and television studios, ensuring they remain state-of-the-art hubs for teaching, research, and production.
You will bridge the gap between theoretical classroom learning and hands-on industry practice. Whether you are calibrating lighting for a television shoot or managing transmission tools for a radio broadcast, your role is to ensure that "The Air" is never compromised. Requirements:
1. Technical Operations & Broadcast Management
Equipment Mastery: Operate and manage high-end studio hardware, including audio mixers, studio cameras, professional lighting grids, and digital transmission tools.
Digital Integration: Stay current with digital production tools (NDI, SDI workflows, and non-linear editing systems) to ensure students are trained on industry-standard technology.
Production Support: Provide real-time technical direction during studio-based lectures, live broadcasts, and recorded student productions.
2. Maintenance & Asset Governance
Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine technical checks and troubleshooting to ensure 100% equipment uptime.
Inventory Management: Maintain meticulous records of equipment inventory, check-out logs, and studio usage schedules to prevent loss or damage.
Safety Stewardship: Enforce strict adherence to operational safety standards (e.g., proper handling of high-voltage lighting and cable management) to protect both staff and students.
3. Academic Collaboration & Mentorship
Instructional Support: Partner with academic staff to design and support innovative practical training modules that reflect current media trends.
Student Supervision: Mentor students in the technical nuances of studio production, fostering a culture of professional discipline and creativity.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or B.Sc in Broadcast Technology or Mass Communication (Broadcast option). A Master’s Degree is highly preferred.
Experience: Mandatory practical experience in radio and television studio operations.
Technical IQ: Deep knowledge of analog and digital broadcast equipment and modern software-based production tools.
Core Competencies
Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and perform minor repairs on complex audio/visual hardware under pressure.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with both academic theorists and student practitioners.
Organization: Ability to manage multiple studio schedules and large inventories without oversight.
