Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Stabilization Center Physician to lead the clinical management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) with medical complications. Under the supervision of the Health & Nutrition Project Manager, you will be the primary medical authority at the PUI Stabilization Center, ensuring that critically ill children receive life-saving interventions in accordance with WHO and national protocols. You will provide technical leadership to a multidisciplinary team of nurses and assistants, bridging the gap between emergency pediatric care and long-term nutritional rehabilitation.
Requirements:
1. Advanced Clinical Management & SAM Complications
Inpatient Medical Authority: Lead morning and evening ward rounds, conducting comprehensive health checks and managing the clinical care of SAM patients with high-risk complications (e.g., hypoglycemia, hypothermia, dehydration, and severe infection).
Emergency Intervention: Lead life-saving procedures, including pediatric resuscitation, IV fluid management, and blood sampling, while supervising the precise administration of F-75 and F-100 therapeutic milks.
Continuous Monitoring: Liaise with the nursing team every 3–4 hours to monitor patient vitals and response to treatment, adjusting medical protocols as necessary.
2. Technical Leadership & Team Mentorship
Capacity Building: Serve as the lead mentor for SC Nurses and Assistants, providing on-the-job training on the latest SAM treatment guidelines and pediatric care.
Workforce Planning: Organize team schedules and rotations to ensure 24/7 medical coverage and high-quality care at all times.
Standards Enforcement: Ensure the entire team adheres to PUI internal regulations and national/international medical ethics.
3. Operational Oversight & Resource Management
Supply Chain Integrity: Coordinate with the Base Pharmacist and Logistics to ensure a consistent weekly supply of essential medicines, RUTF, and therapeutic commodities.
Data-Driven Reporting: Oversee the collection and analysis of quality clinical data, producing weekly and monthly reports on recovery, mortality, and default rates.
Strategic Planning: Support the Nutrition PM in facility setup, staff recruitment, and the integration of SC services into primary healthcare structures.
Qualifications and Skills:
Academic & Regulatory Standards
Education: Qualified Medical Doctor (MBBS/MBChB) from a recognized university.
Licensing: Valid and current practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Professional Experience
Tenure: At least 2 years of progressive experience specifically as an SC Physician or in a high-intensity pediatric nutrition ward.
Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the Nigerian MoH structures and previous experience with humanitarian NGOs in CMAM programming is highly desirable.
Technical & Language Skills
Linguistic Versatility: Fluency in English and Hausa (Mandatory); proficiency in Kanuri is a strong asset.
IT Proficiency: Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
