Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned and strategically minded Legal & Compliance Lead to serve as the primary architect of our firm's legal integrity in Lagos. In a complex and evolving regulatory landscape, the Lead is more than a legal advisor; they are a guardian of corporate reputation and a catalyst for ethical growth. This role is designed for a "Governance Strategist", a professional with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience who can blend sophisticated contract negotiation with the technical rigor of internal audit and risk mitigation.

Your mission is to ensure "Institutional Resilience and Statutory Excellence." You will be the strategic anchor for leadership: responsible for navigating complex disputes, enforcing internal controls, and ensuring every facet of the firm’s operations aligns with Nigerian laws. If you possess "Analytical Grit" and the professional maturity to represent the firm’s interests in high-stakes negotiations, we want you to lead our legal function.

Requirements:

1. Strategic Advisory & Contract Governance

• Legal Stewardship: Provide high-level advisory support on complex commercial contracts and negotiations, ensuring the firm’s interests are protected and liabilities are minimized.

• Dispute Resolution: Lead the strategy for resolving legal disputes, utilizing mediation and negotiation to achieve favorable outcomes while preserving business relationships.

• Executive Advisory: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing data-backed insights on legal risk exposure and corporate governance trends.

2. Regulatory Architecture & Internal Controls

• Policy Engineering: Develop, review, and enforce comprehensive compliance policies and internal controls that reflect both global best practices and Nigerian statutory requirements.

• Proactive Risk Management: Actively track changes in the Nigerian legal landscape (e.g., CAMA, Data Protection, Labor Laws) to proactively adjust firm policies and minimize risk exposure.

• Governance Advocacy: Promote a culture of ethical business practices and high governance standards across all internal departments.

3. Internal Audit & Compliance Verification

• Compliance Auditing: Conduct regular internal audits to verify that operational processes align with Nigerian laws and internal firm standards.

• Control Enforcement: Identify gaps in internal controls and implement corrective actions to prevent non-compliance and financial leakage.

• Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies to ensure the firm remains in good standing with all relevant authorities.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

• Education: LL.B or a related degree in Business Law, Finance, or Political Science. (BL and call to the Nigerian Bar is highly preferred).

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, specifically within a corporate legal department or a reputable consulting firm (Mandatory).

• Sector Mastery: Deep expertise in Nigerian corporate and regulatory frameworks and the complexities of local business law.
