Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

Lead efforts to ensure all tasks are carried out safely, cost-effectively, and with minimal environmental impact, while supporting the long-term reliability and performance of the refinery.

Duties and Expectations

  • Work closely with the Operations Turnaround Coordinator to confirm detailed, value-driven job scopes. Integrate insights and documentation from past turnaround events.

  • Develop comprehensive, safe, and efficient job plans using input from subject matter experts, technical documentation, equipment schematics, site visits, safety resources, and industry standards.

  • Assemble complete job packages by following a structured planning process, leveraging SAP to schedule activities and manage material requisitions.

  • Complete an in-depth planning certification program. As proficiency increases, provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced planners.

  • Coordinate with the scheduler, project teams (as applicable), Operations Turnaround Coordinator, and other key stakeholders to build a cohesive and effective turnaround schedule.

  • Partner with the scheduler and cost analyst to create an optimized labor resource strategy.

  • Acquire necessary labor, contracted services, and materials following established procurement guidelines.

  • Organize service-level agreement (SLA) meetings with contractors and conduct pre-execution walkthroughs or simulations.

  • Oversee job activities before, during, and after execution phases. Focus on safety, productivity, issue resolution, schedule updates, and labor cost approvals.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

  • Prior experience working in a chemical plant or oil refining environment.

  • Solid understanding of maintenance workflows across multiple trade disciplines.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools like Word and Excel, and quick to adapt to new software platforms.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize tasks and follow through independently.

  • Skilled in collaboration, negotiation, and decision-making—especially under pressure during turnaround events.

  • Excellent at juggling multiple priorities, resolving issues, and managing time effectively.

  • Proven leadership ability with a talent for motivating teams and influencing outcomes.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Maintenance craft experience or exposure to maintenance work in a refining or petrochemical environment.
  • Experience in planning jobs in SAP.
