Job Description:
We are seeking a distinguished and visionary leader to serve as the Head of Department (HOD) for Midwifery. This role is a cornerstone of our institution, requiring an individual who can bridge the gap between academic theory and high-stakes clinical practice.
As the HOD, you will provide the strategic direction and administrative oversight necessary to ensure our Midwifery program remains a center of excellence. You will lead a team of dedicated academic and clinical staff, ensuring that our curriculum not only meets but exceeds regulatory standards. Requirements:
1. Academic Leadership & Curriculum Innovation
Regulatory Compliance: Oversee the planning and implementation of a curriculum that is fully compliant with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) standards.
Continuous Improvement: Lead the evolution of teaching methodologies, integrating evidence-based practice and modern midwifery innovations into the classroom.
Academic Planning: Develop departmental policies, academic schedules, and long-term operational plans that align with the institution’s mission.
2. Clinical Excellence & Mentorship
Clinical Coordination: Manage the strategic posting of students to clinical training facilities, ensuring diverse and high-quality practical exposure.
Staff Supervision: Mentor and evaluate academic and clinical staff, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and pedagogical excellence.
Student Outcomes: Monitor academic performance and implement intervention strategies to ensure high pass rates and clinical competency among graduates.
3. Strategic Management & Partnerships
Accreditation Mastery: Lead the department through institutional and external accreditation processes, maintaining "gold standard" status.
Stakeholder Synergy: Build and maintain strong partnerships with hospitals, primary healthcare centers, and regulatory bodies to enhance clinical training opportunities.
Resource Governance: Manage the departmental budget and physical resources with fiscal responsibility and a focus on maximizing student impact.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Midwifery (Mandatory).
Advanced Degree: Master’s Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, or a closely related field (Required).
Licensing: Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid, current practicing license.
Experience: 7 – 10 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 3 – 5 years in a leadership or academic role.

Strategic Acumen: Ability to translate institutional goals into departmental action plans.
Regulatory IQ: Deep knowledge of NMCN regulations and accreditation requirements.
