Job Description:

We are seeking a high-integrity Senior Accountant to lead our finance function and tighten financial controls across our haulage operations. In the logistics industry, profitability is won or lost on operational efficiency; therefore, this role requires a candidate who understands the nuances of fleet-related expenses, fuel management, and service-based billing. You will oversee the full accounting cycle, providing management with the accurate, data-driven insights needed to optimize fleet productivity and control operational leakage.

Requirements:

1. Financial Operations & Team Leadership

• General Ledger Oversight: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring all transactions are posted accurately and on time in Sage 50.

• Supervision: Lead and mentor junior accounts staff, ensuring high standards of documentation and strict adherence to internal timelines.

• Working Capital Management: Rigorously review accounts receivable and payables to ensure healthy cash flow and accurate vendor positioning.

2. Logistics & Fleet Cost Control

• Operational Accounting: Monitor and analyze high-impact costs, specifically fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, and spare parts inventory.

• Variance Analysis: Compare actual operational spend against budgets, identifying and investigating leakages in fuel or fleet-related expenses.

• Asset Tracking: Manage the fixed asset register for the fleet, ensuring accurate depreciation and tracking of vehicle-related capital expenditures.

3. Reporting, Compliance & Audit

• Management Accounts: Prepare comprehensive monthly management accounts that highlight fleet performance and business profitability.

• Reconciliation Mastery: Oversee complex bank, vendor, and internal reconciliations to ensure 100% data integrity.

• Audit & Tax Readiness: Ensure full compliance with IFRS standards and statutory requirements, serving as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Degree: B.Sc. in Accounting or Finance.

• Certification: Professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is a strong advantage.

• Experience: 5–8 years of relevant experience, with a clear preference for candidates from Logistics, Haulage, or Transport sectors.

Technical Competencies

• Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Sage 50 and MS Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).

• Industry Knowledge: Practical understanding of fuel management systems, trip-based accounting, and service-based billing cycles.

• Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to perform cost-benefit analysis and productivity tracking for the fleet.
