Job Description:
The Drilling & Wells Performance Specialist is responsible for driving operational excellence, safety compliance, cost optimisation, and continuous improvement across all Drilling & Wells activities.
The role supports the successful delivery of well operations by aligning performance with company standards, industry best practices, HSE requirements, and value-driven execution strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Performance Management & Continuous Improvement:
Ensure full alignment with Company Rules and performance standards across all Drilling & Wells operations
Lead and participate in internal and external performance reviews
Champion continuous improvement initiatives within Drilling & Wells operations
Ensure well operations are executed in compliance with codes of practice, HSE standards, and environmental regulations, while optimising costs and delivery timelines
Contribute to improved return on Exploration & Production (E&P) investments through enhanced equipment utilisation, resource efficiency, service optimisation, and operational procedures
Coordination & Operational Excellence:
Act as a key contributor to Drilling Wells Improvement Process (DWIP) and Solutions for Performance initiatives
Support LEAN methodologies, cost rationalisation, and continuous improvement culture within the Methods & Performance team
Capture, document, and communicate lessons learned and best practices across the Drilling & Wells métier and external stakeholders
Monitor and analyse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Cost Performance Indicators (CPIs)
Benchmark operations against best-in-class performance standards
Actively participate in monthly performance review meetings
Track, support, and close out identified performance improvement actions
Risk, HSE & Organizational Responsibilities:
Participate in risk assessments related to well operations and implement mitigation measures
Take part in post-operation debriefings with rigs and contractors to capture operational insights
Participate in HSE audits, site committee meetings, and incident investigations
Promote and reinforce Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) initiatives at operational sites and rigs
Technical & Engineering Support:
Demonstrate strong technical knowledge across all Drilling & Wells disciplines, including:
Drilling
Completions
Well Interventions
Well Integrity
Fluids & Support Services
Apply company technical referentials, industry standards, and best practices to ensure safe and optimal well delivery
Propose innovations and performance-enhancing solutions to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and lower operational costs
Conduct and support benchmarking studies and performance improvement initiatives
Contribute to the company’s REX (Return of Experience) knowledge-sharing process
Track and follow up on operational and cost performance indices across all drilling and well assets
Support engineering activities to enhance safety, performance, and well delivery quality
Planning, Contracts & Stakeholder Management:
Assist with resource planning and mobilisation, including personnel, equipment, and contracts
Support optimisation and performance assessment of service providers and contractors
Maintain strong interfaces with internal teams and external partners to optimise well operations
Assist with tender preparation and contract execution for drilling and well services when required
HSE Leadership & Compliance:
Demonstrate strong personal commitment to company and statutory HSE policies
Ensure full HSE compliance by teams and contractors
Actively participate in and promote company safety initiatives, audits, and awareness programmes
Requirements:
Strong knowledge of data analysis tools and methods, with excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Solid technical understanding of drilling engineering and operations, completion engineering, well interventions, and well integrity management
Good knowledge of materials and equipment management, including QA/QC processes, inspection procedures, and stock control
Strong understanding of company rules, technical guides, manuals, and general specifications related to Drilling & Wells, HSE, QA/QC, and associated disciplines
Working knowledge of contracts and procurement processes, financial management, and cost control within oil and gas operations
Good understanding of regulatory authorities and compliance requirements in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, with awareness of international oil and gas regulations and standards
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences with 3–5 years of relevant technical experience in Well Engineering, Drilling & Wells operations, or related roles
