BWE has pooled the expertise of highly qualified and experienced Engineers, Technicians, and other support Personnel to provide Total Quality Services (TQS) to Multinational, Local Oil & Gas Companies operating in Sub-Sahara Africa for Onshore, Swamp & Offshore activity.
Job Description:
- The Offshore Medic / Occupational Medic is responsible for providing medical care, emergency response, occupational health support, and health advisory services to employees working offshore or at company operational sites.
- The role ensures the health and wellbeing of personnel, promotes workplace safety, manages medical emergencies, and maintains compliance with company policies and regulatory health standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first aid treatment and primary healthcare services to employees and contractors.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, accidents, and injuries on site or offshore locations.
- Stabilize patients before evacuation when necessary.
- Coordinate medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) procedures during emergencies.
- Maintain emergency medical equipment, supplies, and ambulance readiness.
- Conduct routine medical assessments and health monitoring of employees.
- Monitor workers exposed to hazardous environments, chemicals, noise, and physical strain.
- Maintain confidential medical records and health reports.
- Support pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work medical examinations.
- Monitor fitness-to-work status for offshore personnel.
- Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Participate in HSE meetings, drills, and safety inspections.
- Promote workplace health awareness and wellness campaigns.
- Advise management on health-related risks and preventive measures.
- Ensure proper infection control and hygiene standards within the facility.
Requirements:
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or Certification in Nursing, Paramedics, Occupational Health, or related medical field.
- Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), Paramedic, or equivalent qualification.
Experience:
- 2–5 years experience in offshore, industrial, oil & gas, marine, or occupational healthcare environment.
- Experience in emergency response and trauma management is an added advantage.
Certifications:
- Valid BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) is an advantage
- HSE Level 1, 2 & 3
- Offshore certifications such as BOSIET/HUET (for offshore roles)
- Valid medical practicing license
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong emergency response and trauma care skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and in remote environments
- Good report writing and documentation skills
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations
- Teamwork and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and medical reporting systems
Working Conditions:
- Offshore platforms, rigs, vessels, production facilities, or industrial sites
- Rotational work schedule may apply
- Exposure to challenging weather and operational conditions
- Ability to work long hours and respond to emergencies at any time.
