The National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) is an Inter-University Centre for Nigerian Language Studies. It is an autonomous institution under the regulation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and clinically sound Medical Officer to provide high-quality primary and emergency medical care. As a core member of the clinical team, you will be responsible for patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and the management of both acute and chronic conditions. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, a commitment to evidence-based medicine, and the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements:

1. Clinical Care & Diagnosis

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive physical examinations, elicit detailed medical histories, and order appropriate diagnostic investigations.

  • Treatment Planning: Formulate and implement effective management plans for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.

  • Emergency Medicine: Lead the stabilization and management of emergency cases, ensuring timely intervention and appropriate referrals when necessary.

2. Procedures & Ward Management

  • Clinical Procedures: Perform minor surgical procedures, wound care, and other bedside clinical tasks (e.g., intravenous access, catheterization, lumbar punctures).

  • In-patient Care: Conduct daily ward rounds, review patient progress, and adjust treatment protocols to ensure optimal recovery.

  • Medical Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential electronic or paper medical records in accordance with medico-legal standards.

3. Public Health & Administration

  • Preventive Medicine: Provide health education and counseling to patients on disease prevention, lifestyle modifications, and immunization.

  • Ethics & Compliance: Adhere to the Code of Medical Ethics as prescribed by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • Multi-disciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate with nurses, laboratory technologists, and pharmacists to ensure holistic patient care.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Primary Degree: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

  • Registration: Full and valid registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • Current Status: Must possess a valid, up-to-date Annual Practicing License.

Experience & Mandatory Service

  • Internship: Successful completion of a 12-month Housemanship/Internship at an accredited hospital.

  • National Service: Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or possession of a valid Exemption Certificate.
