About Company:
PalmPay is an Africa-focused fintech firm, launched in 2019. PalmPay is a mobile payments platform that offers a number of financial services.
Job Description:
As we scale our lending operations, the Loan Verification Officer serves as our primary defense against credit risk and identity fraud. This is a mission-critical field role designed for a high-integrity professional who can look beyond paperwork to assess the true operational reality of an MSME.
You will navigate assigned Local Government Areas (LGAs) to conduct high-quality merchant verifications, ensuring every loan we disburse is backed by a viable, authentic business. From geo-tagging physical locations to conducting post-disbursement audits, you are the guardian of our asset quality. If you have a sharp eye for red flags and the stamina for extensive field engagement, we want you to safeguard our credit operations.
Requirements:
1. Field Intelligence & Merchant Validation
In-Person Audits: Conduct physical site visits to confirm store presence, staff activity, and inventory levels. You don't just "see" a business; you validate its trading patterns and operational capacity.
Authenticity Checks: Use structured interviews and live observations to confirm the alignment between a merchant’s identity, their business model, and their loan request.
Geo-Spatial Accuracy: Capture geo-tagged evidence to ensure 100% location accuracy and prevent "ghost merchant" applications.
2. Documentation & Risk Reporting
Evidence Management: Collect, validate, and upload all required documentation, ensuring full compliance with both internal policies and CBN standards.
Risk Reporting: Prepare factual, high-clarity verification reports for the Credit Team. You are responsible for "flagging" high-risk cases—such as low inventory or evasive behavior—before a single Naira is disbursed.
3. Post-Disbursement & Portfolio Health
Utilization Monitoring: Revisit merchants who have drawn down loans to confirm funds are being used as intended (e.g., restocking vs. personal use).
Early Warning Systems: Identify early distress signals—such as weak sales or operational decline—and submit timely reports to prevent defaults before they happen.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: OND / HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Experience: 1–2 years as a Field Loan Officer, Verification Officer, or Merchant Onboarding Officer (preferably in Fintech or Microfinance).
Technical Proficiency: Experience with mobile verification tools, geo-tagging apps, and basic reporting dashboards.
Core Competencies
Analytical Observation: A "detective-like" ability to spot discrepancies between a merchant's story and their physical operational reality.
Unyielding Integrity: A commitment to objective reporting; zero tolerance for collusion or falsification of data.
Resilience: Comfortable with extensive daily field travel across various LGAs.
Communication: Ability to educate merchants on repayment expectations while maintaining professional boundaries.
