Job Description:

We are seeking a technically proficient and business-minded Greenhouse Manager to lead our nursery and vegetable production operations in Kaduna. This is a mission-critical role: you are responsible for the "birth" of our crop cycles, ensuring the timely and efficient production of high-quality tomato seedlings for all company fields.

Beyond technical management, you are expected to operate the Greenhouse (GH) with a commercial lens—utilizing the facilities year-round to grow high-value vegetables during off-seeding seasons to drive revenue. If you are an expert in Integrated Pest Management (IPM), drip irrigation, and team leadership, we want you to grow with us.

Requirements:

1. Technical Agronomy & Seedling Governance

• Climate Control: Maintain the precise environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, light) required for optimal seedling vigor and research standards.

• Plant Health & IPM: Conduct rigorous inspections for pests and diseases; supervise the application of chemical treatments and biological controls to ensure 100% stand counts.

• Irrigation Architecture: Set up and maintain complex drip irrigation systems within and around the GH to ensure precise nutrient and water delivery.

2. Commercial Strategy & Profitability

• Revenue Generation: Develop and execute cropping calendars for off-seeding seasons, identifying "choice vegetables" that meet market demand and maximize GH utilization.

• Resource Management: Manage labor costs and input inventories with a clinical eye for efficiency, ensuring all materials signed out from the warehouse are accounted for.

• Data-Driven Reporting: Provide comprehensive post-season reports on inputs, stand counts, and distribution metrics to the Farm Operations Manager.

3. Leadership & Infrastructure Maintenance

• Preventative Maintenance: Oversee the repair and upkeep of the GH structures, auxiliary facilities, and specialized equipment.

• Hands-On Leadership: Be practically involved in every stage—from pruning and weeding to fertilizing—while mentoring a team of farm assistants.

• Safety & Compliance: Maintain accurate records for all fertilizer applications, harvesting data, and IPM protocols to ensure food safety and operational standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

• Education: Graduate degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Production, or a related discipline.

• Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in Greenhouse management. Direct experience in Tomato production is mandatory.

• Languages: Must be fluent in English and Hausa, with the ability to communicate technical instructions effectively to local teams.

Core Competencies

• Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of fertigation, pruning, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

• Adaptability: Ability to pivot strategies based on evolving climate conditions or executive directives.

• Independence: Proven ability to manage a standalone unit while remaining a collaborative member of the larger Nucleus Farm team.
