Job Description:
African Humanitarian Aid International (AHAI) is seeking a diligent and high-integrity Finance Assistant to join our mission-critical operations in Maiduguri, Borno State. In a humanitarian setting, financial transparency is the backbone of aid delivery. Your mission is to provide rigorous support to the Finance Department, ensuring that every Naira spent is accounted for, every invoice is verified, and every report reflects the highest standards of fiscal responsibility.
This role is designed for a detail-oriented professional who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining 100% compliance with both AHAI policies and international donor regulations. Requirements:
1. Transactional Integrity & Documentation
Voucher Management: Prepare and maintain payment vouchers with accurate coding and supporting documentation for all project expenses.
Invoice Processing: Manage the end-to-face lifecycle of invoices, ensuring timely payments to vendors and service providers while verifying delivery of goods/services.
Bank Reconciliation: Conduct regular bank and cash reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies, ensuring real-time visibility into liquidity.
2. Budgeting, Reporting & Payroll Support
Expense Tracking: Monitor departmental and project-based spending against approved budgets to prevent over-expenditure.
Payroll Coordination: Assist in the accurate processing of staff payroll, including the calculation of statutory deductions and benefits.
Reporting Assistance: Support the Finance Officer in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for headquarters and donor agencies.
3. Compliance & Internal Control
Policy Governance: Ensure all financial activities strictly adhere to AHAI’s internal manuals and local regulatory requirements.
Audit Readiness: Maintain a systematic and secure filing system (physical and electronic) to ensure the organization is always prepared for internal and external audits.
Risk Mitigation: Track petty cash and field expenses to identify and report any potential financial risks or irregularities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Experience: Previous experience in a finance or accounting role (experience with an NGO/INGO in North-East Nigeria is an advantage).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or SAGE).

Organizational Skills: Capability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a high-pressure humanitarian hub.
