Job Description:
Shell is looking for an experienced aviation professional to join our team in Lagos. This is a unique opportunity to apply your aviation expertise to drive operational excellence within a global energy leader.
As an Air Operations Supervisor, you will act as the Air Transport Technical Authority for Shell business units operating in Nigeria. You will be accountable for the management, oversight, and continuous improvement of contracted air operations, ensuring that all air transport activities are delivered at a risk level that is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). Your leadership will ensure we meet safety and cost-performance targets while fostering a robust safety culture.
Requirements:
Technical Authority & Assurance
Provide expert direction and advice to business unit staff to optimize Air Transport operations and implement global best practices.
Mentor and provide guidance to contracted air operators to ensure compliance with Shell and industry standards.
Establish and maintain engagement with business unit leaders to manage air transport safety and operational risks.
Manage the delivery of the Safety Case and integrate it with local annual air transport safety plans.
Contract Management
Manage strategic and tactical contracts, interfacing with vendors to ensure contractual compliance.
Facilitate performance assessments, develop metrics, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
HSSE & Emergency Response
Apply and implement the Air Transport Safety Case for major contracts.
Conduct facility audits and inspections (airports, heliports, helidecks) in accordance with Shell standards.
Provide specialist advice for the development and implementation of Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Lead and coordinate rapid aviation response for Emergency Response requirements, including SAR/MEDEVAC capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Credentials: A Bachelor’s degree (desired) plus a valid ATPL, CPL, or A&P engineer license (military equivalents accepted).
Experience: * Extensive years of aviation experience, including leadership roles in the oil industry, aircraft operations, or equivalent military organizations.
Demonstrated experience in aviation maintenance, supply chain/logistics, and project management.
Skills:
Strong ability to lead diverse, inclusive teams.
Excellent public speaking and communication skills, with the ability to brief senior management.
Physical/Operational Readiness:
Ability to work offshore and maintain Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) certification.
Capability to conduct offshore personnel transfers via hoisting devices.
Language: Fluency in English is required.
Desired Qualifications:
Offshore helicopter air transport experience.
Completion of specialized courses in accident investigation, aviation safety/SMS, maintenance management, or QA.
AS9100:2016 Lead Auditor (REV D) certification.
