Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our team and own features end-to-end, from initial database schema design to production deployment. You will work on our core financial platform handling portfolios, transactions, and third-party integrations—ensuring systems run reliably and securely. This role requires a highly collaborative approach, working closely with product and design teams to build and ship high-quality features in a fast-paced environment where financial correctness is non-negotiable.

Requirements:

• Feature Development: Build backend features for savings products, portfolios, and stock investments. Own the full lifecycle including database design, business logic, API development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

• System Architecture: Build and maintain integrations with payment gateways (e.g., Paystack, Monnify), fund managers, and KYC providers. Design robust financial systems focusing on idempotency, consistency, and audit trails.

• System Performance: Optimize database queries, design efficient schemas, and ensure high performance using PostgreSQL, Redis, and Celery for background job processing.

• Code Quality: Review code, maintain high testing standards to prevent bugs, and assist in onboarding new engineers.

• Operational Excellence: Debug production issues, monitor system health, and participate in on-call rotations for the systems you build.

• Collaboration: Work with frontend and mobile teams to define API contracts and translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience: 5+ years building production-level backend systems.

• Technical Stack:

  • Languages: Primary proficiency in Python (Django/FastAPI). Proficiency in Golang, JavaScript, and TypeScript is highly valued.

  • Data: Expertise in PostgreSQL/MySQL (schema design, query optimization, transactions).

  • Infrastructure: AWS fundamentals (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda).

  • Architectures: Event-driven architectures, message queues (SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka).

  • Tooling: Background job processing (Celery), REST APIs, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
