BACKEND ENGINEER AT VASTE FINANCE | ENGINEERING JOBS IN LAGOS

Lagos, Nigeria | Posted on 18/05/2026

About Company:

Vaste Holdings is building a regulated investment and savings platform for the Nigerian retail market — enabling individuals to onboard, fund a wallet, and access structured investment products through a secure, compliant digital experience.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and analytically minded Backend Engineer with a deep background in fintech and asset management systems to join our engineering team. In this role, you will architect, build, and optimize the secure infrastructure that powers investment portfolios, client fund management, and automated reporting engines. While your primary engine will be Java Spring Boot, you will also act as a bridge to the frontend, utilizing React and Thymeleaf to build robust administrative dashboards and client-facing web interfaces.

The ideal candidate understands that financial software requires absolute precision where a single bug can impact portfolio valuations, Net Asset Value (NAV) processing, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements:

Backend Systems & Interface Development

  • Microservices & APIs: Architect, write, and maintain high-performance REST APIs and microservices using Java Spring Boot.

  • Dashboard Engineering: Build and optimize internal admin interfaces and web dashboards using React alongside server-side rendering tools like Thymeleaf.

  • Database & Persistence: Design and optimize schemas, complex queries, and data models using JPA/Hibernate on relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).

Core Financial Workflows & Integrations

  • Asset Engine Optimization: Build out logic supporting core asset management operations, including subscription/redemption workflows, real-time P&L tracking, corporate actions (dividends, splits), and complex fee structures (management and performance fees).

  • Third-Party Integrations: Connect backend services seamlessly with market data providers, custody platforms, core banking systems, and automated KYC/onboarding pipelines.

  • Infrastructure & Scaling: Deploy and manage services on cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Heroku), leveraging Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka for event streaming, and Redis for caching.

Security & Compliance Engineering

  • Financial Data Security: Implement rigid security protocols using Spring Security and establish comprehensive audit logging frameworks.

  • Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all codebase architectures and data flows remain strictly compliant with NDPR data protection obligations, CBN digital wallet rules, SEC Nigeria product standards, and AML/CFT compliance criteria.

Qualifications and Skills:

Technical Stack & Engineering Experience

  • Seniority: Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on software development experience, specifically with a focus on enterprise or financial backend engineering.

  • Java Mastery: Deep expertise in Java and the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring MVC).

  • Frontend/Hybrid Capabilities: Working knowledge of React (Hooks, State Management, Components) coupled with experience in server-side templating engines (Thymeleaf, JSP, or FreeMarker).

  • Testing & Tools: Mastery of Git, Maven/Gradle, and automated unit testing frameworks like JUnit and Mockito.

Domain Knowledge & Industry Experience

  • Preferred Platforms: Proven experience building or maintaining portfolio management systems, trading/order engines, wealth-tech platforms, or NAV processing engines.

  • Financial Instruments: Functional understanding of equities, fixed-income instruments, mutual funds, and ETFs.

  • Regulatory Familiarity: Knowledge of the Nigerian financial tech framework (SEC, CBN, NDPR, AML/CFT compliance).
