Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Live-In Caregiver / Social Worker to provide high-quality residential care and psychosocial support for children. This role is designed for a proactive professional who can create a nurturing, structured environment that fosters the emotional, educational, and social development of children in a residential setting.
As a live-in staff member, you will be the primary guardian and advocate for the children under your care, ensuring their daily routines are met while working closely with the broader child protection team to implement long-term care plans.
Requirements:
Daily Care & Supervision
Routine Management: Oversee all daily activities, including balanced feeding, personal hygiene, medication schedules, and consistent school attendance.
Environment Maintenance: Ensure the residential home remains a safe, clean, and child-friendly space at all times.
Logistical Support: Accompany children to school, medical appointments, therapy sessions, and recreational outings as required.
Psychosocial & Developmental Support
Behavioral Guidance: Support the emotional and behavioral growth of children, implementing positive reinforcement and structured development plans.
Counseling: Conduct basic counseling and psychosocial support sessions to help children navigate trauma or developmental challenges.
Educational Support: Monitor academic progress and encourage educational engagement and curiosity.
Reporting & Case Management
Documentation: Maintain meticulous case notes, incident reports, and regular progress updates for the child protection team.
Reunification Support: Assist in family tracing, reunification efforts, and post-reunification follow-up activities where applicable.
Collaboration: Work in lockstep with internal social workers and child protection officers to execute individualized care plans.
Safeguarding & Professionalism
Policy Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all safeguarding and child protection policies.
Continuous Learning: Participate in mandatory staff meetings and ongoing training sessions to enhance caregiving skills and stay updated on best practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
Minimum of a B.Sc. / HND in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development and Family Studies, or Guidance & Counselling.
Experience:
2 – 6 years of proven experience in child care, social work, or a similar residential care environment.
Core Competencies:
Empathy & Patience: A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their holistic development.
Reporting Skills: Strong written communication for preparing detailed case notes and technical reports.
Crisis Management: Ability to remain calm and follow protocols during medical or behavioral incidents.
Professionalism: High level of integrity and a deep understanding of child safeguarding ethics.
Availability: Must be willing and able to commit to a live-in (onsite) arrangement in Lagos.
