Job Description:
- Deputises for the Head of Department, Pharmacy, supporting departmental leadership and contributing to the standards and governance of the pharmacy service, and ensuring the safe, effective and lawful use of medicines.
Responsibilities
- Dispense medicines accurately and provide clinical pharmacy input to patient care.
- Support procurement, storage, stock control and distribution of medicines.
- Handle and document controlled medicines in line with PCN and national requirements.
- Contribute to formulary management, medicines information and pharmacovigilance.
- Participate in quality assurance, audit and continuing professional development.
- Support managed-care processes and deputise for the Head of Department in their absence.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from a recognised institution.
- Completion of the required national internship/pre-registration training and NYSC, or a valid exemption where applicable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 11 years of post-registration experience in the relevant profession, including progressively senior experience at Assistant Chief grade or equivalent.
- Substantial post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
- Experience supervising and supporting junior hospital pharmacy staff.
- Experience contributing to quality assurance and service improvement.
Required skills:
- Knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice appropriate to the role.
- Competence in dispensing, stock control and controlled-medicines handling.
- Understanding of medicines safety and pharmacovigilance.
- Accurate record-keeping and competent use of pharmacy systems.
- Effective communication with clinical colleagues.
Nice to have:
- Training in leadership, quality improvement, medicines safety, supply-chain management or clinical governance.
- Fellowship or senior professional standing within a recognised pharmacy body.
- Certification in clinical pharmacy, pharmacovigilance, medicines safety, quality management or healthcare leadership.
