Job Description:

We are seeking a vigilant and certified HSE Officer to oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental standards at our catering facilities in Owerri. In the industrial catering sector, safety is twofold: protecting our staff from workplace hazards and protecting our clients through rigorous food safety protocols.

The ideal candidate is a proactive professional who can identify risks before they become incidents. You will be responsible for implementing safety frameworks, conducting regular audits, and fostering a "Safety First" culture across our kitchens and delivery operations. While a degree is required, candidates holding a NEBOSH International General Certificate will be given significant priority.

Requirements:

1. Workplace Safety & Hazard Control

  • Kitchen Safety Oversight: Conduct daily inspections of industrial kitchen equipment, gas installations, and electrical systems to prevent fires and burns.

  • Risk Assessment: Perform comprehensive Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for all catering activities, from high-volume food preparation to site delivery.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Lead fire drills and ensure all fire suppression systems and first-aid kits are fully functional and compliant.

2. Hygiene & Environmental Compliance

  • Food Safety Integration: Work alongside the Quality Assurance team to ensure HSE standards align with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Waste Management: Oversee the eco-friendly disposal of organic waste and used oils, ensuring compliance with Imo State environmental regulations.

  • Chemical Safety: Manage the storage and usage of industrial cleaning chemicals, ensuring all staff are trained in COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) standards.

3. Training, Reporting & Auditing

  • Safety Inductions: Conduct mandatory HSE orientations for all new catering staff, focusing on manual handling and sharp-object safety.

  • Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation into any "near-misses" or workplace injuries, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

  • Reporting: Prepare weekly HSE performance reports for management, tracking key safety metrics and audit findings.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Experience: Proven experience as an HSE Officer, specifically within the Catering, Hospitality, or Food Manufacturing industries.

  • Certification: NEBOSH IGC or equivalent HSE Level 1, 2, & 3 certifications are highly preferred.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Nigerian OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) laws and international safety standards.

Core Competencies

  • Vigilance: High attention to detail regarding physical and biological hazards.

  • Communication: Ability to train diverse staff on complex safety procedures in a clear, persuasive manner.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to remain calm and decisive during emergencies.
