Job Description:

We are seeking a technically proficient and leadership-driven Assistant Maintenance/Engineering Manager to oversee the technical integrity of our manufacturing facility in Lagos. This role is designed for a professional who can bridge the gap between high-level engineering strategy and hands-on maintenance execution. You will be responsible for ensuring that production lines, utility systems (including HVAC and purified water), and facility infrastructure operate at peak efficiency with minimal downtime.

The ideal candidate has significant experience within a regulated manufacturing environment (such as Pharmaceuticals) and a deep understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and safety standards.

Requirements:

Maintenance Operations & Utility Management

  • Downtime Mitigation: Assist in planning and supervising preventive and corrective maintenance for production machinery to ensure uninterrupted operations.

  • Troubleshooting: Lead the rapid response to equipment breakdowns, ensuring timely repairs and root-cause analysis.

  • Utility Oversight: Manage critical utility systems, including HVAC, boilers, generators, compressors, and purified water systems, ensuring a stable supply for production.

  • Reliability Tracking: Monitor equipment performance and recommend technical initiatives to improve plant reliability.

Engineering Projects & Inventory Control

  • Project Support: Assist in the installation of new equipment, facility upgrades, and the execution of engineering projects.

  • Validation: Participate in the qualification and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new systems and machinery.

  • Resource Management: Monitor engineering budgets and manage the spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are always available while controlling costs.

  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of equipment history, maintenance logs, and engineering technical files.

Compliance, Safety & Quality

  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all engineering activities comply with GMP, SOPs, and pharmaceutical industry standards.

  • HSE Leadership: Promote a culture of workplace safety, ensuring all technicians and contractors adhere to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.

  • Audit Readiness: Support internal and external audits/inspections by ensuring calibration and maintenance schedules are strictly followed and documented.

Team Leadership

  • Supervision: Lead and coordinate maintenance technicians, contractors, and support staff.

  • Development: Assist in training personnel to enhance technical competencies and foster a collaborative team environment.

  • Reporting: Prepare operational updates and detailed maintenance reports for senior management.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education & Certification

  • Qualification: BA/BSc/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Professional Status: Relevant professional engineering certifications (e.g., COREN, NSE) are an advantage.

Experience & Seniority

  • Track Record: 5–14 years of progressive experience in maintenance or engineering management, preferably within the pharmaceutical or food manufacturing sector.

  • Technical Depth: Proven expertise in managing industrial utilities (HVAC, Purified Water) and automated production machinery.

Core Competencies

  • Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of GMP, SOPs, and safety regulations.

  • Leadership: Ability to supervise a diverse technical team and manage third-party contractors effectively.

  • Problem Solving: Advanced troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Organization: Excellence in documentation and spare parts inventory management.

Salary

₦200,000 - ₦300,000/month
