Lagos, Nigeria | Posted on 23/02/2026

About Company:

Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is the pioneer and leader of the petroleum industry in Nigeria. We invest heavily in our employees, which is reflected in our industry-leading development programme and our commitment to see our employees’ ideas travel and come to fruition

Job Description:

We are seeking a high-caliber Staff Wells Engineer to drive the front-end well design and strategic planning for SNEPCo’s Deepwater portfolio. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering input—spanning Drilling, Completions, Interventions, and Abandonment—ensuring all designs are robust, cost-effective, and fully compliant with Shell’s eGWDP and Wells Manuals.

Beyond technical design, you are a performance catalyst. You will collaborate with operations teams to embed Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), lead value creation events, and integrate cutting-edge technologies. If you possess the "Design-to-Delivery" mindset required for a Fortune 100 energy environment, we invite you to lead our next phase of deepwater excellence.

Requirements:

1. Front-End Well Design & Opportunity Framing

  • Technical Specification: Carry out pixel-perfect well designs using global standards, documenting the "Basis of Design" and technical outcomes for complex deepwater environments.

  • Asset Integration: Provide critical Well Engineering input into Concept Selection, Field Development Plans (FDPs), and Opportunity Framing.

  • Value Engineering: Lead "out-of-the-box" thinking sessions to identify the "Right" well and optimum development options, mitigating value erosion from the planning phase.

2. Operational Excellence & Performance Improvement

  • Performance Embedding: Work with operations to integrate PIPs during active drilling, ensuring asset and subsea teams are perfectly synced.

  • Metrics & Analytics: Utilize digital tools to track real-time execution metrics, prepare detailed cost/time estimates, and facilitate after-action reviews (AAR).

  • Technical Assurance: Ensure strict adherence to Management of Change (MOC) procedures and Shell’s assurance processes to safeguard project integrity.

3. HSSE, Sustainability & Technology Leadership

  • Process Safety: Integrate HSSE and Sustainable Development (SD) into the design and execution of every well-work program.

  • New Technology Implementation: Leverage global Shell networks to benchmark performance and implement new technologies that optimize costs and reduce technical uncertainty.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), working with vendors to close learning gaps and implement structural changes.

Qualifications and Skills:

Technical & Academic Mastery

  • Education: Graduate Degree in Engineering or Science.

  • Experience: Minimum 7 years in Oil & Gas, with at least 5 years dedicated to Well Engineering (Deepwater experience preferred).

  • Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of design tools: Compass, StressCheck, WellCAT, WellPlan, and EDM.

  • Process Knowledge: Deep understanding of the standard Global Well Delivery Process (GWDP).

Leadership & Commercial Acumen

  • Influence: Ability to interface with diverse asset teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Commercial Grit: Understanding of the commercial implications of new techniques and the ability to benchmark costs on a local and global scale.

  • Contract Management: Proven ability to manage vendor performance and track value leakage throughout project execution.
