About Company:
Tetra Maritime is a leading Nigerian ship owner and operator, providing comprehensive and tailor-made solutions across the oil and gas supply chain, including upstream, midstream, and downstream.
Job Description:
- Union Maritime is building a Strategic Intelligence team focused on alpha generation for both our current shipping markets and those we aim to enter.
- To power this team, we are looking for a "builder" to be the engine behind our data infrastructure. Instead of just writing code, you will bridge the gap between shipping data, commodities data, and actionable insights.
- Your primary goal is to ensure our data foundation and frameworks are bulletproof, allowing the Head of Strategic Intelligence and commercial leads to focus on executing high-alpha trading strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Data management: Take ownership of cleaning, structuring, and maintaining proprietary commercial data. You will transform disparate market feeds into a clean platform that allows us to identify value more rapidly and at a larger scale than the broader market.
- Market monitoring: Help build and automate how we scan and interpret structured and unstructured market information, with the remit to take ownership of those pipelines and introduce new sources.
- Technical support: Assist in running statistical models and ensuring that the different tools and datasets conform to the statistical rigour required for us to be more certain when we take strategic trading decisions.
- Performance tracking: Develop and build tools to help us understand how insights from our data and models have contributed to the company's P&L.
Requirements:
- Mindset: You should have the mindset of a builder. You enjoy finding innovative processes or methods to make data more usable and have the eagerness to continuously improve solutions.
- Shipping experience: While prior shipping experience is not strictly required, you must demonstrate the ability to learn shipping fundamentals and dynamics quickly and adapt to new environments.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Background: 3–5 years in a data-heavy role within a Nigerian Tier-1 bank, Fintech, or a global consultancy.
- Technical skills: Fluency with Python is a must, as well as SQL databases, building data pipelines, integrating structured and unstructured datasets, data validation and testing, NLP modelling and implementation.
