Job Description:

Rig Safety & Risk Management

  • Hazard Control: Develop and maintain HSE programs specifically tailored to drilling activities, ensuring compliance with international standards (e.g., API, IADC) and regulatory requirements.

  • Rig Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of rig floor operations, hoisting equipment, blow-out preventers (BOP), and mud systems to identify mechanical and procedural hazards.

  • Risk Assessment: Lead JSA (Job Safety Analysis) and HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) for high-risk drilling tasks, including casing, cementing, and pipe handling.

  • Contractor Oversight: Conduct safety audits of subcontractors and third-party vendors on-site to ensure they adhere to the rig’s safety management system.

Incident Investigation & Technical Reporting

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses on the rig, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Data Analytics: Analyze HSE performance trends and report key metrics (TRCF, LTI) to management with actionable recommendations for improvement.

  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of safety drills, equipment certifications, and personnel training logs.

Training & Emergency Preparedness

  • Crew Briefings: Deliver "Toolbox Talks" and specialized training on hazard recognition, chemical handling (COSHH), and emergency response.

  • Emergency Coordination: Lead fire drills, well control drills (Kick drills), and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) simulations.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Oversee rig-site waste management, spill prevention (SOPEP), and pollution control measures to minimize environmental impact.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Liaison

  • Compliance Authority: Serve as the primary technical resource for HSE inquiries and represent the company during regulatory agency inspections and industry forums.

Requirements:

  • Command & Control: Ability to enforce safety protocols in high-stress situations.

  • Vigilance: Sharp attention to detail in identifying equipment fatigue or procedural shortcuts.

  • Communication: Strong reporting skills and the ability to train a diverse, multi-cultural rig crew.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Mandatory Experience: Minimum of 3 years of active working experience on a Drilling Rig. (Candidates without rig experience will not be considered).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or HND in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related technical field.

  • Certifications: Professional HSE certifications (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, or Offshore Survival/BOSIET) are highly preferred.

  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of drilling-specific safety protocols, Permit to Work (PTW) systems, and Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.
