About Company:
Moniepoint Incorporated is a global business payments and banking platform and recently became QED Investors’ first investment in Africa. We are the partner of choice for over 600,000 businesses of all sizes, powering the dreams of SMBs and providing them with equal access to the tools they need to grow and scale.
Job Description:
We are seeking an analytically rigorous, highly inventive, and system-oriented Hardware Engineer to serve as the technical custodian of our physical transaction endpoints. In this high-impact engineering role, you will take full operational ownership of the end-to-end hardware lifecycle of our Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal fleet bridging the gap between micro-electronic circuit design and real-world field reliability.
This position demands far more than theoretical laboratory design; it requires a hands-on technical leader who acts as the vital link between complex multi-layered electronics and the everyday business owners who depend on our uptime. You will design robust circuit boards, architect strict testing protocols, maintain pristine design records, and directly empower our field repair technicians with the technical manuals, diagnostic workflows, and training they need to maintain an airtight, high-availability hardware fleet.
Requirements:
1. Electronics Design, Prototyping & Layout Innovation
PCB Architecture: Research, conceptualize, and develop high-performance electronic hardware circuits and complex Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts optimized for secure, low-latency transaction processing.
Hardware Lifecycle Management: Maintain, audit, and update the definitive technical "source of truth" for all corporate hardware revisions, including schematic captures, component datasheets, and production-ready Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Strategic Feasibility Analysis: Track international semiconductor trends, payment hardware specifications, and EMV/PCI security standards to determine the economic and technical feasibility of new hardware modifications.
2. Hardware Quality Assurance & Stress Testing
Rigorous Diagnostics: Conduct exhaustive, hands-on environmental and electrical testing of POS terminals, power sub-systems, and peripheral tools to uncover latent design vulnerabilities.
Failure Analysis Loop: Diagnose and isolate systemic component-level defects, hardware regressions, or design gaps, formulating immediate board-level engineering modifications to enhance field durability.
3. Workforce Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer
Technician Training Architecture: Translate highly complex electrical engineering schematics into practical, step-by-step technical training modules to maximize the repair velocity and diagnostic precision of field technicians.
Technical Documentation: Author, illustrate, and continually update comprehensive hardware repair manuals, assembly/disassembly guides, and diagnostic decision-trees that simplify complex component-level fixes (e.g., IC reflows, display replacements, port repairs).
4. Cross-Functional Engineering Sync
Operational Reporting: Preserve meticulous, data-hygienic registries of terminal failure trends, repair cycle results, and component consumption indices to uncover high-friction issues.
Collaborative Alignment: Intervene at the intersection of firmware and hardware, working closely with software engineers and terminal repair supervisors to align our overall hardware distribution and support strategy.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Academic Tracks
Degree Baseline: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc. / B.Eng.) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a strictly related hardware science discipline. Exceptional candidates demonstrating elite practical electronic portfolio mastery without a formal degree will be evaluated.
Experience & Proven Track Record
Domain Longevity: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive, verifiable experience operating as a active Hardware Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, or Electronics Repair Specialist.
Specialized Exposure: Direct, hands-on experience in component-level terminal repair, smartphone/micro-computing logistics, hardware teardowns, or manufacturing QA lines is a dominant competitive advantage.
