Job Description:

  • The Grants & Programme Finance Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing financial aspects of donor-funded and grant-supported programmes within a multi-national creative and innovation company.
  • This includes budget preparation, budget tracking, financial reporting, grant compliance, audit coordination and revenue recognition in line with IFRS 15 and donor contractual frameworks.
  • The ideal candidate must have experience in project or grant accounting within donor-funded programmes, development finance, NGOs, international innovation programmes, or multi-country projects, with strong knowledge of funder compliance and financial reporting requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities
Planning and Administration:

  • In collaboration with Practice Leads and Project Managers, the post holder will lead the development of financial proposal and budgeting by assigning cost to project work packages and corresponding tasks.
  • Estimate labour costs using standardized rate cards and activity-level effort assessments, partnering with project managers to define milestones and ensure optimal and timely deployment of project funds.
  • Establish appropriate internal controls and project governance to actively monitor project’s lifecycle and keep it on track.
  • Manage all project audits, budgetary control, and accounting in line with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

 

Financial Analysis and Evaluation:

  • Consistently analyze and track project's budget to ensure that project managers use funds according to the approved budget categories for optimal budget allocation and utilization.
  • Produce analysis on variances between forecast vs actual cost.

 

Financial Reporting:

  • Provides timely project reporting to management and partners relating to cash flow, revenue, and expenses.
  • Act as a point of contact for project reporting obligations to clients.
  • Collaborate with the Programme Manager to develop pre-billing and performance certification documentation, enabling accurate payment requests and ensuring revenue recognition in compliance with IFRS 15.

 

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Effectively communicate financial requirements and needs of each project to managers and other stakeholders to ensure compliance to approved expenses, procurement processes and other supporting documentation for reporting to clients and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively monitors projects to ensure quality work and identify potential risks.
  • Ensures that project managers execute projects deliverables within the agreed budget, timeline and standard.
  • Collaborate with project staff and other stakeholders to ensure that project's deadlines are met, and accurate time management systems are put in place to book time and validate work done.

 

Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with program managers, grant coordinators, and other stakeholders to provide financial guidance and support.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and financial documentation for new grant applications.
  • Liaise with funding agencies and donors regarding financial matters, ensuring clear communication and documentation.

 

Process Improvement & Documentation:

  • Develop and enhance financial tracking and reporting systems for grant management.
  • Work with the wider finance team to design and implement improvement initiatives to drive the overall performance and profitability projects.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of grant financial activities for transparency and accountability.
  • Provide training and support to project staff on financial procedures and compliance requirements.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of grant regulations (such as GAAP, IFRS, funder-specific guidelines such as EU, UN amongst others).
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonalskills, with the ability to work collaboratively
  • with multiple stakeholders.
  • • Experience with non-profit or government grant funding is a plus.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in grant accounting, financial management, or related roles.

 

Work Environment:

  • In-office work setting.
  • Occasional travel may be required for audits or grant-related meeting
