DMOT Enterprises - Our client, a subsidiary of a leading FMCG with snacks manufacturing setting, is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Description:

We are seeking an exceptionally authoritative, highly resilient, and strategically minded Employee Relations Manager to lead our industrial relations and workplace compliance portfolio from our Abuja hub. Operating as a critical strategic partner to executive leadership, you will hold absolute operational accountability for the health, stability, and alignment of our human capital ecosystem bridging the gap between corporate commercial targets and factory/field worker welfare.

This senior executive position is engineered specifically for a seasoned HR specialist with extensive, proven domain expertise within the high-stakes FMCG manufacturing landscape. You will serve as the definitive institutional authority on trade union negotiations, collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), workplace dispute resolutions, and labor law compliance. Your ultimate mission is to foster a proactive, high-morale workplace culture while systematically mitigating industrial strike risks, factory downtime, and legal employment liabilities.

Requirements:

1. Industrial Relations & Union Management Governance

  • Strategic Union Engagement: Act as the organization's primary interface and chief negotiator with trade unions, labor associations, and factory worker committees, cultivating transparent, high-trust relationship frameworks.

  • Collective Bargaining Ownership: Lead the preparation, structural modeling, and strategic negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), ensuring terms align with corporate fiscal budgets and operational goals.

  • Crisis Minimization: Deploy proactive warning systems to detect factory-floor friction, proactively managing grievances to eliminate industrial actions, sit-outs, or work-to-rule disruptions.

2. Workplace Conflict Resolution & Grievance Engineering

  • Forensic Investigation: Supervise and direct independent, legally sound investigations into high-stakes workplace misconduct, harassment claims, or breach-of-contract allegations, maintaining pristine, audit-ready case registries.

  • Disciplinary Advisory: Chair the institutional disciplinary committee, ensuring all punitive actions, termination workflows, and suspension procedures strictly follow corporate policy and statutory fair-hearing principles.

  • Mediation Leadership: Act as an expert neutral mediator in complex multi-stakeholder disputes, resolving interpersonal friction between desk staff, field sales units, and production personnel.

3. Labor Law Compliance & Risk Mitigation

  • Regulatory Auditing: Continuous auditing of internal human resource practices, factory shift policies, and wage-and-hour frameworks to guarantee absolute compliance with the Nigerian Labor Act and Trade Unions Act.

  • Litigation De-risking: Partner closely with internal and external legal counsels to manage employment litigation cases, executing strategic frameworks to settle disputes before they reach the National Industrial Court (NICN).

  • Policy Curation: Design, update, and deploy comprehensive Employee Handbooks, Code of Conduct mandates, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) centered on shifting federal labor rules.

4. Workplace Culture & Employee Voice Programs

  • Morale Diagnostics: Formulate and run periodic employee engagement surveys, town halls, and focus groups, translating raw sentiment indicators into actionable workplace improvement strategies.

  • Welfare Synchronization: Oversee worker welfare committees, occupational health advisory structures, and factory safety support frameworks to drive a supportive culture of employee care.

  • Executive Advisory: Provide regular data-driven briefs to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) regarding workforce health index levels, union stability trends, and regional employment compliance risks.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education & Academic Foundations

  • Degree Baseline: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc. / B.A.) in Arts, Social Sciences, Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Law, or a strictly related behavioral discipline from an accredited institution.

  • Professional Credentials: Active professional membership or chartered status with recognized human capital bodies—such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), SHRM, or CIPD—will be treated as a dominant competitive advantage.

Experience & Sector Footprint

  • Domain Longevity: Must possess between 10 to 15 years of progressive, verifiable experience operating directly within a core Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, or Senior HR Specialist capacity.

  • FMCG Imperative: Extensive, hands-on experience navigating workplace environments within a structured Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or high-volume industrial manufacturing corporation is heavily preferred. Candidates must understand the unique organizational dynamics of balancing blue-collar factory staff with white-collar corporate units.

  • Union Mastery: Proven track record of successfully managing structured trade union systems, leading collective bargaining sessions, and navigating complex labor strikes.
