Job Description:
We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead our finance department and ensure the integrity of our financial operations. You will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial information in strict accordance with IFRS and GAAP. Beyond technical accounting, you will serve as a strategic leader, overseeing a high-performing team and optimizing our SAP ERP environment. This role requires a professional who can bridge the gap between complex data analysis and strategic decision-making while maintaining absolute compliance with statutory and safety regulations.
Requirements:
1. Strategic Leadership & Team Management
Departmental Oversight: Supervise the accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Mentorship: Build and lead a motivated finance team by providing technical guidance and professional mentoring to junior staff.
Strategic Input: Ensure the organization’s financial strategy is sound, enabling management to make informed decisions that achieve long-term objectives.
2. Technical Accounting & SAP Operations
Period-End Mastery: Manage the end-to-end period closure process and prepare comprehensive management reports.
SAP FICO Administration: Manage the Park & Post procedures for AP, AR, General Journals, and Bank Entries. Oversee the creation and modification of Supplier and Customer Master Data on SAP.
General Ledger Integrity: Scrub the GL, prepare income statements, and maintain Statement of Financial Position schedules. Manage the accruals checklist and down payment ledger closures.
Audit & Compliance: Provide active support during annual statutory audits (PBC preparation) and ensure all reporting meets IFRS guidelines.
3. Budgeting, Planning & Analysis
Corporate Budgeting: Lead the collation and review of group-wide budgets, ensuring they support business objectives, and manage the final upload into SAP.
Performance Tracking: Monitor the implementation of approved budgets and generate monthly performance reports to identify variances.
Data Analytics: Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement, providing actionable insights to the Financial Controller (FC).
4. Statutory Compliance & Taxation
Tax Management: Oversee all statutory remittances including CIT, VAT, WHT, NSITF, PAYE, and ITF, ensuring 100% compliance with legal timelines.
QHSE Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies, ensuring a safe working environment for all stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Certifications
Academic Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Professional License: ACA (Chartered Accountant) is mandatory.
Management Credentials: Professional certification in Management (e.g., AMNIM).
Experience & Technical Skills
Total Tenure: Minimum of 10 years in Finance & Accounting.
Leadership Experience: At least 5 years in a senior leadership/supervisory role.
Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Enterprise SAP FICO systems (ERP) is a non-negotiable requirement.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of IFRS reporting regulations and Nigerian tax laws.
