Job Description:
We are seeking a chartered and highly analytical Accountant to lead the financial operations for our Lagos-based retail business. This is a full-time, on-site role designed for a professional who views accounting as a tool for business growth, not just record-keeping.
As an ACA or ACCA certified professional, you will take absolute ownership of our financial ecosystem. You will be responsible for the integrity of our financial statements, the optimization of our retail budgets, and the precision of our accounts payable and receivable. If you have 3–4 years of experience and the ability to provide data-driven insights in a fast-paced retail environment, we want to see your expertise in action.
Requirements:
1. Financial Stewardship & Control
Reporting Excellence: Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial records, ensuring all financial reporting aligns with IFRS and local regulations.
Reconciliation Mastery: Conduct rigorous bank and account reconciliations to ensure 100% accuracy in our cash position.
Budget Governance: Monitor departmental budgets and perform variance analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities and prevent overspending.
2. Retail Operations & Analysis
Receivables & Payables: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring healthy vendor relationships and timely collections.
Inventory Liaison: (Specific to Retail/Toys) Collaborate with the warehouse and retail teams to track inventory-linked costs, shrinkage, and valuation.
Strategic Insights: Analyze financial data to provide management with actionable insights regarding product margins, seasonal trends, and operational efficiency.
3. Compliance & Audit Management
Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all tax filings (VAT, WHT, CIT) and financial activities comply with Nigerian financial regulations.
Audit Leadership: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, preparing all necessary schedules and documentation to ensure an "unqualified" audit report.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various departments to embed financial discipline and accountability across the organization.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Certification: Chartered Status (ACA or ACCA) is mandatory.
Experience: 3–4 years of core accounting experience. Prior experience in the Retail, Toy, or FMCG industries is highly advantageous.
Technical & Behavioral Skills
Software Mastery: Proficiency in advanced MS Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling) and modern accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or SAP).
Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving abilities and a "zero-defect" attention to detail.
Pace: Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting deadlines in a high-velocity retail environment.
