Job Description:

Design, Engineering & Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the end-to-end development, review, validation, and approval of all civil and structural engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Deliver structurally sound designs for foundations, reinforced concrete structures, steel frameworks, drainage systems, roads, pavements, retaining walls, and associated infrastructure works.
  • Conduct advanced structural analysis, load assessments, and stability checks to ensure safety, durability, and long-term performance of all structures.
  • Ensure all engineering outputs align with approved project briefs, specifications, Nigerian building codes, international standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Review, challenge, and approve contractors’ shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, and fabrication details to ensure design intent and constructability.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives to reduce lifecycle costs, improve constructability, and optimize project timelines without compromising quality or safety.
  • Coordinate and integrate civil and structural designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and project management disciplines to eliminate clashes and design gaps.

 

Construction Supervision & Project Delivery:

  • Provide on-site and off-site oversight of all civil engineering works to ensure construction is executed strictly in line with approved designs, standards, and schedules.
  • Conduct routine and ad hoc site inspections covering excavation works, reinforcement placement, concrete pours, formwork, soil conditions, and structural installations.
  • Monitor construction progress against approved work programs and proactively flag risks, delays, or quality issues with clear technical solutions.
  • Review site instructions, technical queries, and variation requests, providing timely engineering input to support informed management decisions.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports, technical assessments, and engineering updates for executive management review.

 

Team Leadership & Technical Oversight:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop civil engineers, site engineers, and supervisors to build a high-performing engineering team.
  • Allocate responsibilities, set performance expectations, and provide technical guidance across multiple projects.
  • Enforce engineering discipline, documentation standards, and accountability across all civil engineering activities.
  • Foster collaboration between engineering, construction, procurement, and project controls teams.

 

Contractor, Consultant & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Review and technically evaluate contractor bids, methodologies, and execution strategies for civil works packages.
  • Interface with consultants, statutory authorities, and regulatory agencies to secure approvals, inspections, and compliance certifications.
  • Chair and participate in technical coordination meetings, offering expert guidance and resolving engineering challenges.
  • Review and certify civil engineering deliverables, including BOQs, measurements, progress claims, and completion documentation.

 

Quality Assurance, Safety & Compliance:

  • Implement robust quality control systems to ensure materials, workmanship, and completed works meet approved specifications and standards.
  • Enforce compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies across all project sites.
  • Identify site hazards, enforce corrective actions, and champion a strong safety culture across engineering and construction teams.
  • Continuously assess engineering and construction processes, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and delivery outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Advanced knowledge of structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design, and foundation systems.
    • Solid understanding of building services coordination, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical interfaces.
    • Strong grasp of construction methodologies, sequencing, and site execution challenges.
    • In-depth knowledge of engineering standards, codes, quality systems, and safety regulations.

 

  • Technical & Digital Skills:
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and structural analysis software.
    • Strong capability in engineering calculations, modeling, and technical documentation.
    • Ability to interpret complex drawings, specifications, and contracts with precision.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A Master’s degree is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum of 15 years progressive experience within the construction or engineering sector, with significant exposure to complex building and infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in structural design, civil works execution, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple stakeholders across project lifecycles.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian construction regulations and international engineering standards.
  • Professional engineering registration or membership is an added advantage.
  • Proximity to Victoria Island or willingness to work within Lagos project environments is beneficial.
