Job Description:
The Accounts & Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting records, timely management reporting, and full tax compliance across JHP/MRDS operations.
The role ensures all financial transactions are properly captured, reviewed, and reported in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, while maintaining strong internal controls and supporting management decision-making.
Requirements:
1. Accounts & Financial Management
Transaction Management: Ensure all JHP/MRDS operational transactions are properly documented, raised, and accurately captured in the accounting system.
Financial Review: Conduct regular reviews of all accounts to confirm accuracy, completeness, and consistency with supporting schedules and reconciliations.
Reporting: Prepare and manage monthly management accounts, financial schedules, commentaries, Board reports, audited financial statements, and statutory reports.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Coordinate the preparation, review, and revision of annual budgets and forecasts in line with operational performance.
Approvals & Compliance: Review and approve financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and controls.
Daily Operations: Oversee the timely processing and review of daily payments and financial postings.
Team Leadership: Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and supervision of accounting staff to improve competence and efficiency.
Ad-hoc Duties: Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management.
2. Tax Compliance & Strategy
Tax Computation: Compute all applicable taxes including PAYE, WHT, VAT, CIT, CGT, DT, ITF, capital allowances, and related accruals in line with statutory requirements.
Filing & Payments: Ensure timely filing and payment of all tax obligations to relevant authorities to avoid penalties and compliance breaches.
Audit & Engagement: Manage tax audits, queries, and engagements with tax authorities to resolve issues effectively.
Ledger Reconciliation: Review tax ledger accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and proper reconciliation.
Documentation: Maintain proper documentation of tax records, correspondences, and CAPEX invoices for audit and regulatory purposes.
Certifications: Ensure timely processing of tax clearance certificates and related documentation.
Transfer Pricing: Prepare and file transfer pricing documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
Regulatory Updates: Stay updated on changes in tax laws and ensure continuous compliance across operations.
Capacity Building: Train and guide finance staff on tax processes, compliance, and reporting standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Professional Certification
Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Professional Certification: ICAN certification is mandatory.
Experience & Knowledge
Years of Experience: 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in accounting and taxation within a structured corporate environment.
Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting standards, and Nigerian tax laws.
Core Competencies: Proven experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and full-cycle tax compliance.
