About Company:
Nigeria Sinotruck Limited is a commercial automotive company that is interested in starting a vendor leasing desk.
Job Description:
We are seeking a high-precision Import Officer to serve as the primary architect of our international supply chain. In a global trade environment, efficiency is defined by the speed of clearance and the minimization of demurrage. This role is designed for a "Trade Specialist", a professional with 2–3 years of experience who can navigate the entire importation lifecycle: from the moment a Proforma Invoice (PFI) is issued to the final offloading of goods at our premises.
Your mission is to ensure "Zero-Bottleneck Importation." You will be responsible for the mechanical accuracy of insurance processing, banking documentation (Form M/LC), and customs clearing. If you possess the analytical grit to manage high-value shipments through Sage or SAP and the leadership to drive cost-effective logistics, we want you to manage our trade operations.
Requirements:
1. End-to-End Documentation & Banking
Financial Instrument Management: Coordinate with banks for the processing of Letters of Credit (LC) and Form M, ensuring all documentation aligns with Central Bank and regulatory guidelines.
Insurance & Risk Mitigation: Manage the application and processing of marine insurance for all incoming consignments to safeguard company assets during transit.
PFI Stewardship: Review Proforma Invoices from manufacturers for accuracy, ensuring price and quantity specifications meet internal procurement standards.
2. Customs Clearance & Regulatory Liaison
Clearing Strategy: Lead the coordination with clearing agents to ensure that all goods are classified correctly under the Harmonized System (HS) codes to avoid overpayment of duties or legal penalties.
Timeline Optimization: Monitor the "Estimated Time of Arrival" (ETA) vs. actual delivery, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks at the port to minimize demurrage and storage charges.
Compliance Governance: Ensure all import activities comply with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other regulatory bodies (SON, NAFDAC, etc.).
3. Systems Integration & Financial Reporting
ERP Fidelity: Utilize Sage ERP or SAP to track shipment statuses, landed costs, and inventory arrival dates with 100% data accuracy.
Cost-Benefit Analysis: Continuously evaluate shipping routes and freight forwarding options to achieve the most cost-effective importation model without compromising delivery speed.
Leadership & Reporting: Provide management with detailed reports on import lead times, total landed costs, and status updates for all active shipments.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience: 2 – 3 years of core experience in an import-focused role.
Technical Mastery: Hands-on experience with the Nigerian Import Process; proficiency in Sage ERP, SAP, and Microsoft Office.
Core Competencies
Analytical Grit: High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing complex shipping documents and financial figures.
Problem-Solving Agility: Ability to respond efficiently to unforeseen challenges such as port strikes, vessel delays, or regulatory shifts.
Communication Mastery: Strong interpersonal skills to navigate relationships with manufacturers, bankers, and customs officials.
