Job Description:

We are seeking a vigilant and proactive Health and Safety Officer (Transport) to oversee the safety and regulatory compliance of our transportation operations. In this role, you will be the guardian of our transport fleet's safety culture, ensuring that our logistics activities remain efficient while minimizing risk to personnel, vehicles, and the public. You will develop, implement, and enforce safety programs tailored specifically to heavy-duty transport, ensuring every driver and logistics staff member returns home safely.

Requirements:

• Policy Implementation: Develop and enforce robust health and safety policies specifically designed for large-scale transportation and fleet operations.

• Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular site inspections and fleet audits. Assess operational risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.

• Training & Mentorship: Provide comprehensive safety training to transportation staff, covering emergency procedures, defensive driving, and proper equipment operation.

• Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analysis for any transport-related accidents or near-misses and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.

• Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for local and federal regulatory bodies, ensuring Dangote Cement Transport maintains full compliance with national safety standards.

• Reporting & Analysis: Maintain meticulous safety records and present data-driven safety performance insights to management to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education: B.Sc. Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related Science/Engineering discipline.

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a safety role specifically within the transportation or logistics sector.

• Essential Certifications: Current certification in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).

• Added Advantages:

  • Professional Certificate/Diploma in fire, safety, health, or environmental management (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, NVQ Level 6).

  • Fluency in Hausa is considered a distinct advantage.

• Technical Expertise: Awareness of Fleet Safety Management and in-depth knowledge of transportation-specific H&S regulations.

• Skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite and safety management software, with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Education: B.Sc. Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related Science/Engineering discipline.
