Job Description:

The Head, Compliance and Risk is a strategic leadership role responsible for safeguarding the firm’s operations through robust risk management, compliance enforcement, and internal audit systems. The role oversees regulatory compliance (CBN, EFCC, NFIU, FIRS, etc.), enterprise risk management (ERM), AML/CFT frameworks, and internal control structures. The ideal candidate must ensure that all financial, operational, and reputational risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and monitored while maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance and regulatory adherence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement an enterprise risk management (ERM) framework specific to BDC operations.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor financial, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Monitor foreign exchange transaction exposures and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain a risk register and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Advise the executive team on emerging risks and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop and execute an annual internal audit plan covering high-risk areas.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Review transaction logs, financial reports, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Report audit findings to senior management and the Board Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as the main liaison with CBN, NFIU, EFCC, SCUML, and other regulatory authorities.
  • Interpret and implement CBN circulars and ensure timely filing of all statutory returns.
  • Oversee and update AML/CFT programs, policies, and controls.
  • Monitor transactions and escalate/report suspicious or unusual activities.
  • Ensure that the BDC operates within regulatory limits and permitted FX activities.
  • Stay abreast of evolving compliance and FX regulations in Nigeria.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture across departments through continuous education.
  • Conduct periodic staff training on AML/CFT, KYC, regulatory changes, and internal controls.
  • Develop and communicate updates to compliance policies and procedures.
  • Participate actively in internal committees (e.g., audit, compliance, and risk).

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a BSc. Or HND in Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications: ACA, ACCA, ICAN, CIA, CRMA, ACAMS or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years' experience in risk, compliance, or internal audit roles within financial services, ideally in banking or treasury services.
  • Strong knowledge of CBN regulations, AML/CFT frameworks, and FX compliance guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Crypto, USDT, is an added advantage.
  • Deep understanding of Nigerian financial laws and regulatory expectations.
  • Demonstrated integrity, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, risk tools, and audit/compliance systems.
