Job Description:
We are seeking a technically-grounded and highly organized Fleet Officer to oversee the management and maintenance of our company’s fleet. Unlike traditional administrative roles, this position requires a candidate with strong hands-on mechanical expertise, specifically with diesel engines. You will be responsible for ensuring that every vehicle is in peak operating condition, minimizing downtime through rigorous preventive maintenance, and providing immediate technical solutions during breakdowns.
The ideal candidate is a proactive troubleshooter who can balance workshop coordination with the detailed documentation required for fleet compliance and performance tracking.
Requirements:
Mechanical Oversight & Maintenance
Diesel Expertise: Act as the primary technical lead for diagnosing mechanical faults in diesel engines and performing/supervising repairs.
Preventive Planning: Design and execute a strict preventive and corrective maintenance schedule to ensure vehicle longevity and safety.
Hands-on Repairs: Carry out routine inspections and perform minor mechanical and basic automotive electrical repairs to ensure immediate vehicle availability.
Breakdown Response: Provide rapid-response solutions to vehicle breakdowns, managing recoveries and on-site repairs efficiently.
Fleet Operations & Compliance
Availability Management: Oversee daily fleet operations to ensure the right vehicles are available and roadworthy for scheduled tasks.
Performance Tracking: Meticulously track fuel consumption, mileage, and overall vehicle performance to identify inefficiencies.
Regulatory Documentation: Manage all records related to vehicle servicing, licensing, insurance, and statutory roadworthiness compliance.
Safety Standards: Enforce strict adherence to safety and regulatory requirements, ensuring zero compromise on vehicle integrity.
Workshop & Vendor Coordination
Resource Management: Coordinate workshop activities and manage relationships with external vendors and spare parts suppliers.
Quality Control: Inspect all third-party repairs to ensure they meet company quality standards before a vehicle is returned to service.
Reporting: Utilize Microsoft Office to maintain digital logs and provide management with periodic fleet status reports.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
Proven experience as a Fleet Officer, Workshop Supervisor, or in a similar mechanical-heavy fleet role.
Essential: Deep, hands-on experience with diesel engine servicing and diagnostics.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in automotive fault-finding and engine troubleshooting.
Basic knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data logging and fleet tracking.
