Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of News to lead the editorial and operational direction of our 24-hour news station. This is a high-level executive role responsible for harmonizing news delivery across Television, Digital, and Radio platforms. You will be the primary architect of our newsroom’s voice, ensuring that our coverage is not only fast and accurate but also deeply engaging and ethically sound.

The ideal candidate possesses a formidable background in multimedia newsroom leadership and has a proven track record of driving audience growth while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

Editorial Strategy & Leadership

• Multimedia Oversight: Lead and synchronize newsroom operations across TV, Digital, and Radio to ensure a unified and powerful brand voice.

• Strategic Planning: Drive the long-term editorial strategy, daily news planning, and the tactical execution of breaking news coverage.

• Quality Assurance: Ensure all news output is accurate, balanced, timely, and meets the station's benchmark for content excellence.

• Talent Mentorship: Supervise and mentor a diverse team of Editors, Producers, Reporters, Anchors, and Digital specialists to build leadership capacity.

Operational & Digital Management

• Workflow Optimization: Manage newsroom resources and operational workflows to maximize efficiency in a 24-hour news cycle.

• Digital Innovation: Develop and implement cutting-edge digital journalism strategies to increase audience engagement and expand our online footprint.

• Inter-departmental Collaboration: Partner closely with Programming, Production, Engineering, and Digital teams to ensure seamless technical and creative execution.

Ethics & Representation

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all content strictly adheres to media laws, NBC regulations (or relevant local bodies), editorial policies, and journalism ethics.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the station at high-level industry events and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education: * Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field.

  • Master’s Degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Nigerian Guild of Editors) is a significant advantage.

• Experience: * Minimum of 15 years in broadcast journalism and newsroom operations across TV, Digital, and Radio.

  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a reputable, large-scale media organization.

  • Proven experience managing 24-hour live news operations.
