- The Legal Counsel, Credit Administration plays a pivotal role in enabling this mission. Every loan issued is underpinned by a robust legal framework, requiring precise documentation, thorough review and validation of customer information, and rigorous legal due diligence.
- This role is central to ensuring that all credit transactions are properly structured, enforceable, and compliant with applicable laws and internal policies.
- The Legal Counsel, Credit Administration is a highly meticulous and detail-driven professional who partners closely with the business to structure, review, and safeguard loan contracts.

Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and continuously improve loan documentation, including loan agreements, security documents, guarantees, and other credit-related legal instruments.
- Conduct legal due diligence on borrowers, guarantors, and collateral, including verification and validation of corporate, property, and identity documents.
- Ensure that all loan documentation is properly executed, perfected, stamped, and registered in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Provide legal advisory support to the business loans, credit, recovery, and risk teams on all credit-related transactions and issues.
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage legal and regulatory risks associated with lending activities.
- Support the management of post-disbursement documentation, including tracking of outstanding conditions precedent and conditions subsequent.
- Liaise with external solicitors, regulators, registries, and other relevant third parties on matters relating to credit documentation, perfection, and enforcement.
- Maintain accurate and well-organized legal records for all credit transactions on approved systems and repositories.
- Contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of credit policies, standard templates, and legal processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, operations, risk, and compliance teams to streamline and automate credit documentation workflows.
- Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting lending and credit administration, and proactively advise the business.
Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge of Nigerian banking, finance, and credit-related laws and regulations, including BOFIA, CAMA, AML/CFT regulations, and data protection laws.
- Practical experience with perfection of security interests, including CAC filings, landed property registries, stamp duties, and other relevant regulatory filings.
- Solid understanding of credit risk, recovery processes, and enforcement of security interests.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage large volumes of documentation efficiently and accurately.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with credit, risk, operations, and compliance teams.
- Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B)
- 4–7 years of post-call experience, with demonstrable experience in banking, fintech, financial services, or a reputable law firm with a strong finance and commercial practice.
- Proven hands-on experience drafting, reviewing, and managing loan agreements, security instruments, guarantees, and other credit-related documentation.
