Job Description:
Mshel Homes Limited is seeking a precise and analytical Cost Accountant to serve as the financial guardian of our construction and real estate projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that our development projects remain profitable by meticulously tracking expenditures, validating contractor invoices, and providing real-time cost-to-complete estimates. This role is ideal for a numbers-driven professional who understands the intersection of construction billing and financial reporting.
Requirements:
Contract Cost Tracking: Monitor all project-related expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets. Track labor, materials, plant, and overhead costs with granular detail.
Invoice & Payment Validation: Review and validate contractor/subcontractor invoices, progress claims, and payment certificates against work actually performed.
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly and quarterly reports detailing budget vs. actual performance. Analyze variances and advise management on potential cost overruns or financial risks early in the project lifecycle.
Change Order Management: Assess the financial impact of contract variations and change orders, providing clear recommendations to the Contract Management team.
Budgetary Support: Assist in preparing project budgets, conducting ongoing variance analysis, and recommending cost-saving strategies to ensure value for money.
Compliance & Audit: Reconcile contract costs in the accounting system, ensure accurate allocation to project cost centers, and provide necessary documentation for internal and external audits.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Certification: Professional membership in ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, or NIQS is a strong advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in cost accounting or project cost control, specifically within the construction or real estate industry.
Technical Mastery:
Proven expertise in reviewing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), contract valuations, and payment certifications.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/Accounting software.
Solid understanding of Nigerian tax regulations (WHT, VAT) as they apply to construction contracts.
