Job Description:

We are seeking an elite, IIM-Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) to anchor our privacy framework in Nigeria. In the era of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), success is defined by "Regulatory Resilience", the ability to harmonize complex data processing activities with stringent legal requirements while fostering a culture of privacy-by-design. This role is designed for a "Privacy Architect" who can act as the definitive authority on data ethics, serving as the bridge between our internal operations and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

Your mission is to ensure "Absolute Data Integrity and Institutional Compliance." You will be the primary guardian of our data subjects' rights: responsible for leading high-stakes DPIAs, managing breach response protocols, and providing expert advisory on data governance. If you possess "Analytical Rigor," hold the mandatory IIM-CDPO certification, and have a proven track record in risk management or legal compliance, we want you to drive our data protection excellence.

Requirements:

1. Regulatory Sovereignty & Compliance

• Statutory Oversight: Ensure the organization remains 100% compliant with the NDPA (2023) and NDPR, interpreting local laws alongside global best practices (such as GDPR).

• Policy Architecture: Develop and implement robust data protection policies that govern the entire data lifecycle—from collection and storage to cross-border transfer and deletion.

• NDPC Diplomacy: Serve as the officially designated primary contact for the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), managing all statutory filings and regulatory audits.

2. Risk Mitigation & Privacy Engineering

• DPIA Execution: Conduct comprehensive Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for all new projects and high-risk processing activities to identify and mitigate privacy threats.

• Privacy-by-Design: Advise management and IT teams on embedding privacy features into the architecture of products, systems, and business processes from the onset.

• Breach Governance: Oversee the end-to-end data breach management process, including rapid detection, containment, investigation, and legal reporting within statutory timelines.

3. Organizational Culture & Training

• Awareness Advocacy: Design and deliver specialized data protection training programs to ensure all staff members understand their roles in maintaining data privacy.

• Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with Legal, IT, and HR departments to align data governance strategies with broader institutional goals.

• Audit & Monitoring: Conduct periodic internal audits to test the effectiveness of privacy controls and report findings directly to executive management.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

• Mandatory Certification: Must hold an active Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) designation from the Institute of Information Management (IIM). Applications without this specific certification will not be considered.

• Legal/Technical Mastery: Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the NDPR.

• Experience: Proven professional background in Data Protection, Compliance, Law, IT, or Risk Management.
