Job Description:
The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is seeking two (2) highly disciplined Visa Assistant positions to join the Consular Office. In the high-stakes environment of international travel and diplomacy, the Visa Assistant is the frontline guardian of integrity and efficiency.
Your mission is to facilitate the complex lifecycle of Non-Immigrant (NIV) and Immigrant Visa (IV) applications. You will balance technical data entry and rigorous document review with the "soft skills" required to manage a diverse public under continuous pressure. Requirements:
1. Regulatory Compliance & Case Management
Document Forensic Review: Perform exhaustive reviews of visa applications to ensure they meet strict documentary requirements and established processing guidelines.
Data Integrity: Manage high-speed data entry, passport manifesting, and visa printing with absolute accuracy.
Trend Analysis: Exercise high-level attention to detail to identify patterns, potential fraud, or emerging issues and escalate them to Consular Officers as necessary.
2. Diplomatic Customer Service & Correspondence
Public Interface: Address a diverse range of applicants daily, both in person and via written correspondence, exercising tact and professional judgment.
Multilingual Liaison: Utilize fluency in English and a major local language (Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa) to provide clear guidance and resolve applicant inquiries.
Communication Mastery: Draft accurate written correspondence and manage high volumes of inquiries via MS Outlook while protecting sensitive information.
3. Operational Agility & Security
Cross-Functional Support: Train and function across any role within the Consular Section to meet shifting visa demands and scheduling constraints.
System Proficiency: Utilize the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) to maintain organized filing systems and office productivity.
Integrity & Trust: Obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance, adhering to the highest ethical standards of the U.S. Government.
Qualifications and Skills:
Academic & Experience Profile
Education: Completion of at least two (2) years of college or university studies.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years involving the application of laws/regulations, extensive public contact, or complex problem-solving.
Knowledge: Good understanding of local government organizations, immigration practices, and Nigerian cultural/social dynamics.
Skills & Abilities
Linguistic Mastery: Fluent in English (Speaking/Reading/Writing) AND fluent in Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa.
Technical IQ: Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Outlook; basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
Efficiency: Ability to perform high-accuracy work at a rapid pace under continuous pressure and time constraints.
Compliance & Background
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust Clearance.
Medical/Background: Subject to a background investigation and pre-employment medical exam.
Timeline: Must be able to begin work within 6 weeks of receiving authorization.
