Job Description:

We are seeking a proactive and technically grounded Safety Officer to support our Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Management Systems. In this role, you will be a critical guardian of our "Zero-Harm" objective, ensuring that all plant operations, warehouses, and administrative offices comply with ISO 45001 (OH&S) and ISO 14001 (EMS) standards.

As a Safety Officer, you will not only identify hazards but also innovate controls—integrating technology and process automation to safeguard our workforce. If you have a passion for preventive safety, a clinical eye for non-conformity, and deep experience with Nigerian regulatory bodies like LASEPA and NESREA, you are the talent we need to drive safety excellence at SBC.

Requirements:

1. SHE Systems & Regulatory Governance

  • System Coordination: Assist the Safety Manager in implementing and auditing SHE Management Systems across the plant and external warehouses.

  • Legal Stewardship: Ensure the site meets all current legislative requirements, acting as a liaison with the Federal Fire Service, NESREA, and LASEPA.

  • Audit & Inspection: Conduct periodic internal audits and equipment inspections (e.g., fire systems, machinery guards), ensuring 100% closure of identified gaps.

2. Hazard Mitigation & Incident Management

  • Risk Assessment: Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk assessments to enforce preventative measures across all production lines and warehouses.

  • Hazard Spotting: Lead "hazard spotting" and "near-miss" reporting initiatives to preemptively address unsafe acts.

  • Investigation: Support line management in carrying out Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for incidents, ensuring lessons learned are institutionalized through new SOPs.

  • LOTO & Hazardous Materials: Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and oversee the safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances.

3. Training, Engagement & Accountability

  • Capability Building: Initiate and organize SHE training for employees, contractors, and executives to ensure a high level of safety consciousness.

  • PPE Management: Manage stock levels and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring 100% compliance on the shop floor.

  • Stakeholder Bonding: Build productive relationships with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Planning to ensure safety is integrated into every workflow.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on safety experience, preferably in the FMCG, Food & Beverage, or Bottling industry.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Nigerian environmental and safety regulators (NESREA, LASEPA, Federal Fire Service).

  • Standards Proficiency: Practical knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and JSA procedures.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify subtle hazards and translate them into technical reports.

  • Innovation: Interest in process automation and using technology to improve safety monitoring.

  • Reliability: High level of accountability in record-keeping (soft and hard copies) and housekeeping oversight.

  • Communication: Ability to instruct and advise diverse teams on safety-related topics like noise levels and machinery usage.
