Job Description:
We are seeking a highly resourceful Network Engineer to join our core operations team in Victoria Island, Lagos. This role is critical to our infrastructure connectivity, focusing on the design, implementation, and maintenance of both core IP networks and diverse "last-mile" access solutions.
You will be responsible for the health and security of a sizable IP network, ensuring that all devices—from core routers to client-side access points—operate within optimal limits. This position requires a "hands-on" expert with a CCNP-level mastery of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS) and a deep understanding of securing complex environments using Cisco, Juniper, or Barracuda firewalls.
Requirements:
1. Core IP Operations & Routing Architecture
Network Design: Support the architectural planning and implementation of core and client IP networks, ensuring scalability and high availability.
Advanced Routing: Manage and optimize complex routing protocols, including EIGRP, OSPF, BGP4, and MPLS, to ensure efficient traffic flow and redundancy.
Registry Management: Coordinate with Regional IP Registries (e.g., AfriNIC, RIPE) for IP address allocation and management.
2. Last-Mile Access & Connectivity
Access Solutions: Design and deploy last-mile connectivity across various environments using Fiber-optics, Microwave radio (PTP/PTMP), and DSL.
LAN/WAN Infrastructure: Oversee the physical and logical setup of switches, VLANs, Spanning Tree protocols, and structured cabling.
VoIP & Streaming: Implement and troubleshoot Video/Streaming protocols and Voice over IP (VoIP) services to ensure Quality of Service (QoS).
3. Security, Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Infrastructure Security: Ensure all IP devices are hardened and secured using Firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Barracuda) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
Network Diagnostics: Conduct deep-packet analysis using tools like Wireshark (Ereal) and monitor system health to proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
Operational Integrity: Document all network changes and provide high-level support for VPNs, Load Balancers, and Shell scripting for automation in Unix/Linux environments.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Communications, Network, or Computer Engineering.
Certification: CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) level equivalent or higher is mandatory.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in IP Network and System Support, preferably within an ISP environment.
Technical Stack
Routing/Switching: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP, VLAN, Spanning Tree, EtherChannel.
Security: Firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Barracuda), VPN, IDS.
Access Tech: Fiber, Microwave Radio (PTP/PTMP), DSL.
Systems: Unix/Linux, Shell Scripting, Packet Sniffing (Wireshark).
Core Competencies
Problem-Solving: Highly motivated to troubleshoot complex network outages, even outside standard office hours.
Communication: Strong English skills to document changes and liaise with international registries.
Collaboration: A team player capable of prioritizing urgent project requirements in a fast-paced environment.
