Job Description:
Redeemer’s High School is seeking a rigorous and principled Financial Accountant to serve as Assistant Bursar. As a functional head within the Bursary Department, you will be a guardian of the school’s financial integrity. You will lead the accounting function, oversee complex tax and regulatory compliance, and ensure robust internal controls across stores and stock management. This role requires a blend of technical mastery in ERP systems and a leadership style rooted in Christian values. You will provide strategic support to the Bursar and act with full authority in their absence to maintain the school’s fiscal excellence.
Requirements:
1. Financial Governance & Integrity
Reporting Cycle: Lead the end-to-end month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial statements are accurate and timely.
Audit & Control: Perform rigorous balance sheet analyses and bank reconciliations. Manage accounts payable with strict invoice controls and approval workflows.
Strategic Budgeting: Develop comprehensive budgets and management reports to guide leadership in resource allocation and cost-saving initiatives.
2. Tax, Regulatory & Compliance
Statutory Remittance: Manage all tax planning and ensure timely filing and remittance of statutory obligations (PAYE, WHT, etc.).
External Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for tax authorities, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Standardization: Ensure all financial practices strictly adhere to IFRS/IPSAS accounting standards and school policies.
3. Operational Cost & Store Oversight
Inventory Control: Oversee the Goods Received Note (GRN) and Store Issue Note (SIN) processes to ensure zero leakage in the school’s physical assets.
Variance Analysis: Conduct regular stock reconciliations and analyze cost variances to optimize procurement and consumption patterns.
Supervision: Provide direct oversight to the Stock Controller, ensuring internal controls are maintained at every level of the supply chain.
4. Leadership & People Management
Team Stewardship: Supervise Accounts Receivable and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, precision, and professional growth.
Executive Support: Serve as the Assistant Bursar, representing the department in administrative meetings and overseeing operations in the Bursar’s absence.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Credentials
Certification: Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or ACMA is mandatory.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 6 years post-degree experience, ideally within a school or a structured corporate environment with clear reporting lines.
Technical Proficiency
ERP Mastery: Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Tally, CITTA, or comparable ERP systems.
Advanced Excel: Expert-level skills in data manipulation, financial modeling, and pivot tables.
