FIELD TECHNICIAN (FIBRE) AT WIOCC NIGERIA LIMITED | FIELD TECHNICIAN JOBS IN LAGOS

Lagos, Nigeria | Posted on 10/03/2026

About Company:

WIOCC is the leading player in the deployment of carrier-scale, future-proofed network infrastructure into Africa. We have the flexibility and scale to meet the ever-growing demand for reliable, high-speed capacity throughout Africa, driven by end consumers, enterprise users and the ecosystem that supports them. Our policy of continual investment in our network to create Africa’s first, truly hyperscale network infrastructure means ongoing investment for growth, ensuring our readiness to meet the future data volume demands of end users throughout Africa.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and disciplined Field Technician (Fibre) to anchor our access and core network operations in Lagos. In the high-demand telecommunications sector, success is defined by "Optical Integrity", the ability to install, commission, and maintain high-capacity fibre routes with surgical precision. This role is designed for a "Technical Authority" with 3–5 years of experience who can blend "Field Grit" (Outside Plant deployments) with the "Analytical Mastery" required for OTDR diagnostics, root cause analysis, and geospatial documentation.

Your mission is to ensure "Zero-Latency Connectivity and Total Network Resilience." You will be the primary engine of our physical layer: responsible for end-to-end circuit validation, preventive maintenance of Points of Presence (PoPs), and the meticulous management of "As-Built" records within OSS/BSS systems. If you possess "Diagnostic Prowess," proficiency in Fusion Splicing, and a commitment to strict SLAs, we want you to drive our infrastructure excellence.

Requirements:

1. Deployment & Optical Commissioning

  • Engineering Fidelity: Execute the installation of core and access fibre cables according to industry standards, ensuring bend radius compliance and proper duct utilization.

  • Link Validation: Complete end-to-end circuit turn-ups using OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) and OLTS, interpreting trace results to validate performance against design parameters.

  • Fusion Splicing Mastery: Perform high-precision splicing for OSP (Outside Plant) and ISP (Inside Plant) environments, including the management of splice closures and patch panels.

2. Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Governance

  • Level 2 Fault Diagnostics: Act as the technical authority for complex fault isolation, conducting root cause analysis (RCA) to resolve fibre breaks or signal degradation within agreed SLAs.

  • Preventive Stewardship: Conduct routine technical audits and risk assessments of PoPs and active/passive infrastructure to mitigate potential network failures.

  • Geospatial Mapping: Use tools like Google Earth and QGIS to update route planning, track network assets, and maintain a real-time digital twin of the physical network.

3. Documentation & System Integrity

  • As-Built Accuracy: Validate and update network records in NetSuite and OSS/BSS platforms, ensuring all physical changes are instantly reflected in the enterprise asset register.

  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Collaborate with Project Managers and engineering teams to provide structured progress reports and technical feedback on network expansion projects.

  • Quality Assurance: Audit third-party contractor work to ensure all deployments align with approved engineering specifications and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Education: Diploma (or equivalent work experience) in a technical field (Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or related).

  • Experience: 3–5 years in telecommunications, with at least 2–3 years specifically in fibre installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

  • Software Mastery: Practical proficiency in Google Earth, QGIS, and OSS/BSS platforms.

Core Competencies

  • Diagnostic Grit: Advanced hands-on experience in fibre characterization and optical networking diagnostics.

  • Operational Discipline: High level of accuracy in record-keeping and a disciplined approach to following safety and engineering SOPs.

  • Stakeholder Diplomacy: Ability to present technical findings clearly to both internal engineering teams and external clients.
