Job Description:
We are seeking a high-integrity, meticulous Legal Bookkeeper to manage the financial heartbeat of our firm. Unlike standard bookkeeping, this role requires a deep understanding of Legal Trust Accounting. You will be the primary guardian of our clients’ funds, ensuring every Naira is tracked, reconciled, and managed in strict accordance with the NBA Rules of Professional Conduct.

Requirements:
1. Trust Accounting & NBA Compliance
Fund Segregation: Maintain absolute separation between the Firm’s operating funds and Clients’ Funds (Retainers/Deposits).
Brief-Level Tracking: Track client balances on a "per brief" basis to prevent any co-mingling or misuse of client money.
Statements & Disbursals: Prepare detailed statements showing funds held and disbursed for each client, ensuring total transparency.
Regulatory Governance: Ensure all financial movements comply with NBA rules regarding the handling of client money.
2. Operational Cash Management
Revenue Recording: Record all cash, cheque, and electronic payments and issue official receipts immediately.
Expense Management: Manage petty cash, process court filing fees, and handle logistics and office expenses with rigorous voucher support.
Fee Advisory: Assist Partners with fee breakdowns, adjustments, and the preparation of complex billing schedules.
3. Systems & Digital Excellence
ERP Management: Operate and troubleshoot accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or Zoho), ensuring data integrity and system backups.
Analytical Reporting: Use Excel or Google Sheets for advanced financial forecasting, reconciliations, and trend analysis.
Automation: Implement software features, macros, or add-ons to automate routine tasks and improve departmental efficiency.
Data Security: Maintain a secure, digital filing system to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive financial data.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Background
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
Experience: 2–3 years of proven experience in a Bookkeeper role, ideally within a legal or professional services firm.
Technical Savvy: Expert proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho, or SAP, and advanced Excel skills.
Credentials: Membership of AATWA or ICAN is a significant advantage.
Core Competencies
Discretion: Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client and firm financial matters.
Detail-Oriented: A "zero-error" mindset when managing reconciliations and data entry.
Proximity: Residency on Lagos Island or environs is highly preferred.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for interacting with Partners and clients.
