Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Security Engineer to architect, secure, and maintain the integrity of MTN Nigeria’s expansive IP network infrastructure. In this role, you will be the guardian of our business services, products, and applications, ensuring they operate within a hardened security environment. You will manage a sophisticated suite of security platforms—ranging from Next-Gen Firewalls and DDoS mitigation to WAF and Load Balancers. This position requires a blend of deep technical troubleshooting, proactive threat hunting, and network programmability to automate defenses and ensure 24/7 service availability for millions of subscribers.

Requirements:

1. Infrastructure Hardening & Platform Management

• Edge-to-Core Defense: Actively manage and tune IPS/IDS, Web Filtering, WAF, and DDoS mitigation platforms to protect against evolving threat vectors.

• Platform Lifecycle: Oversee the deployment, patching, and housekeeping of Firewalls, Load Balancers, and Remote Access VPNs.

• Network Programmability: Develop automation scripts using Python, Shell, or Ansible to streamline deployments and minimize manual configuration errors.

2. Incident Response & Troubleshooting

• Advanced Troubleshooting: Leverage deep expertise in TCP/IP, DNS, and IPsec/SSL VPNs to resolve complex network faults and integration issues.

• Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Conduct granular analysis of security incidents to determine the root cause and implement long-term structural improvements.

• On-Call Support: Provide technical support for new integrations and critical incidents to ensure minimal downtime for core services.

3. Governance, Compliance & Monitoring

• Log Analysis & SIEM: Coordinate log monitoring across all security nodes to detect anomalies and ensure compliance with MTN’s security policies.

• Audit & Compliance: Participate in security infrastructure audits, providing technical evidence and ensuring all configurations adhere to industry best practices.

• Business Continuity: Contribute to the development and periodic testing of Disaster Recovery (DR) plans to ensure the resilience of critical applications.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education & Certifications

• Academic: First degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

• Professional: Cisco/Juniper/Fortinet/F5 Professional-Level Security Certifications (e.g., CCNP Security, PCNSE, or FCSS).

• Advanced Certifications: CISSP or CEH certifications are considered a significant advantage.

Experience & Competencies

• Tenure: 3–7 years of experience in network security, preferably within a Service Provider or Telecom environment.

• Cybersecurity Depth: In-depth knowledge of attack methodologies, threat landscapes, and vulnerability management.

• Automation Fluency: Practical experience with scripting languages (Python, Ansible) for network automation.

• Operational Excellence: Proven ability to manage large-scale security deployments and perform proactive daily health checks.
