Job Description:
We are seeking a seasoned, high-caliber Director of Administration to lead the complex operational and administrative ecosystem of our Teaching Hospital. In accordance with Cap 463 (formerly Decree No. 10 of 1985), this is a pinnacle leadership position, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Director (CMD).
You will serve as the primary architect of the hospital’s day-to-day administration and the Secretary to the Board of Management. This role demands an executive who blends deep institutional memory with forward-thinking policy expertise. You will be responsible for ensuring that administrative services meet the rigorous standards of an international center of medical excellence, providing strategic counsel to the Board on policy matters that impact clinical efficiency and institutional prestige.
Requirements:
1. Executive Governance & Board Secretariat
Board Advisory: Function as the Secretary to the Board of Management, providing high-level administrative counsel on policy formulation and institutional governance.
Policy Implementation: Translate Board directives and national health policies into actionable administrative frameworks that enhance hospital efficiency.
Liaison & Diplomacy: Act as the primary administrative bridge between the Board of Management, the CMD, and the various clinical and non-clinical departments.
2. Institutional Operations & Resource Management
Operational Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day administration of the hospital, ensuring a seamless support system for clinical services.
Cross-Departmental Synergy: Leverage your rotated experience through core administrative departments to break down silos and optimize hospital-wide workflows.
Standardization: Ensure that all administrative processes align with international best practices for healthcare institutions of repute.
3. Strategic Advisory & Compliance
Regulatory Stewardship: Ensure the hospital remains in strict compliance with the provisions of Cap 463 and all other relevant statutory regulations.
Continuous Improvement: Advise the CMD on emerging trends in hospital administration and digital transformation to maintain the hospital's status as a leader in the health sector.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Experience: Minimum of 20 years of cognate administrative experience in a Teaching Hospital or equivalent institution.
Rank Seniority: Must have held the rank of Deputy Director of Administration (CONHESS 14) as of January 2021.
Rotational Experience: Proven experience of having rotated through at least two core administrative departments (e.g., HR, Finance, General Admin) within UCH or a similar institution.
Education & Certifications
Degree: A good first degree in Hospital/Health Services Management, Administration, Humanities, or Social Sciences.
Post-Graduate: A relevant Master’s degree or PhD is considered a significant added advantage.
Professional Membership: Fellowship or Associate membership of the Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria (IHSAN) or other relevant bodies is highly desirable.
NYSC: Evidence of completion or exemption is mandatory.
Core Competencies
Technical IQ: Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications for executive reporting and data analysis.
Leadership Grit: Proven ability to manage large, diverse administrative teams in a high-pressure clinical environment.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills for high-level board secretarial duties and policy drafting.
