Job Description:

• The Workshop Vehicle Inspector is responsible for the systematic examination, diagnosis, and reporting of the mechanical condition of the company’s fleet of trucks and trailers.
• This role ensures that all vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with regulatory standards before departing the workshop or depot.

Duties

• Conduct thorough routine inspections of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), trucks, and trailers returning from trips or prior to dispatch.
• Perform detailed safety inspections, including brakes, steering, suspension, lighting, tires, and coupling devices.
• Ensure all vehicles comply with local transport regulations (Road Worthiness Certificates, axle load limits) and company safety standards.
• Accurately complete inspection checklists and defect reports.
• Carry out preventative maintenance checks according to the fleet management schedule.
• Liaise with drivers to discuss reported vehicle defects and gather information on vehicle performance issues.
• Prioritize inspection workload based on dispatch schedules and operational urgency.
• Ensure the inspection bay is clean, organized, and free of hazards.

Requirements:

• Minimum:Trade Test Certificate (Class III, II, or I) in Auto Mechanics, Heavy Duty Mechanics, or a related field.
• Preferred: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering.
• Valid Driver’s License (Class C or E – specific requirement for articulated vehicles may apply).
• Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience as a Mechanic or Technician working on Heavy-Duty Trucks, Trailers, and buses.
• Previous experience in a vehicle inspection or quality control role within a transport/logistics company is highly desirable.
