Job Description:

Why does the job exist?

  • The Team Leader is responsible for the quality and quantity of the products produced on their lines, achieving the agreed OEE.
  • The team leader leads; coordinates; organises; ensures the safety of all employees on their line (Mixer Operators, Machine Operators, and Soap Packers); communicate all necessary information to the operators.
  • The Team leader coordinates the maintenance, housekeeping (cleaning of lines, machines and 5S practice in line with the EMS requirements); timely updating of all production systems; ensures the daily lines shift meeting is held to ensure the lines are always performing optimally.
  • The Team Leader must be able to perform all job functions on the line and above all, must participate actively in developing the capability of his team members (KSA) and CI of the systems and processes on the line.

  • Controlling the production processes and product quality by ensuring the right procedures are followed.
  • All product quality-related documentations are completed on time by the relevant personnel.
  • Examines finished products to determine conformance to specifications.
  • Ensure compliance to all Business Unit SOP’s and SOC’s (Standard Operating Conditions) and that all operations comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and provisions.
  • Ensure immediate investigation and correction of deviations in process behaviour in good time. Escalate issues to get prompt attention whenever necessary.
  • Instruct their teams on the proper use of safety equipment and emergency procedures should they be necessary at any point during the production process.
  • Ensure that their team members are supplied with protective wears, including safety glasses, gloves and protective outer clothing.
  • Responsible for safety checks on all equipment operated throughout the production process, as well as monitoring activities of workers during production.
  • Reports incidents that compromise safety and security including identifying and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Environmental responsibility and care is maintained through proper housekeeping of the floor, cleaning of machines and that everything has a place and a place for everything.
  • Understands roles and responsibilities and the importance of conformity with the EMS requirements.
  • Implements and complies with EMS requirements relating to environmental aspects and impacts and other policies, procedures and/or regulations applicable to assigned jobs to ensure correct handover procedure resulting in exact control.
  • Organised housekeeping.
  • To ensure all subordinate staff are trained on the job to possess adequate knowledge, skill and attitude for effectiveness on their present and other related jobs in their sections.

 

Principal Accountabilities
The key outputs of the job:

  • List in priority order, if possible, typically 8-10

  • Any requirement for organizing & planning including own work and the allocation of resources
  • Typical decisions made and if they are advisory or directly responsible for the outcome
  • Lead the Business Unit team execute plans to deliver Master Schedule expectations and achieve on a shift basis the weekly, monthly and annual production targets through effective organisation, coordination, planning, communication and post-production reviews.
  • Ensure that all required raw materials for the production are ready and check the functionality of different machines before the operation time. 
  • Monitors Business Unit area performance through Short Interval Control; daily and weekly OEE tracker, identification of the 3 top losses and review of same, completion and use of What went well, what went wrong and how we can work differently as well as adherence to agreed standards.
  • Ensuring all existing systems are completed on time, are alive and running.
  • Elimination/Reduction of downtime due to machine break down
  • To work with the production manager continually to improve plant performance while adhering to legislative and company standards
  • To work closely as a team with other shift-based leaders to prioritise shift activity and deliver plant targets
  • To work with the maintenance manager doing LLF and PPM to continually improve machine availability
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • ND / HND in Engineering Related Disciplines.

 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year work experience in a similar position
  • Sound Knowledge of Engineering Practices
  • Software Knowledge
  • Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Ability to withstand stress and work under pressure.
